PONTIANAK, Thekabarnews.com—West Kalimantan Governor Ria Norsan on Monday, May 4, officially dispatched the province’s 2026 Haj pilgrims in a ceremony at the Governor’s Hall in Pontianak. They will embark on the spiritual journey to the Holy Land through the Batam Embarkation.
For West Kalimantan, the departure marks the official start of the 1447 Hijri/2026 Haj pilgrimage. The pilgrims are scheduled to depart in stages from May 5 to May 10.
This year, the number of quotas for Haj in West Kalimantan consists of 1,749 regular pilgrims, 93 priority older pilgrims, seven supervisors of KBIHU (Haj Guidance Group), and nine regional Haj officers.
The biggest sending region in the province, meanwhile, was Pontianak, which contributed 1,474 regular pilgrims.
Governor Ria Norsan stressed that the provincial government remains committed to providing the best services for all pilgrims. This year, the theme of the Haj service prioritizes elder-friendly, disability-inclusive, and women-centered services.
“The West Kalimantan provincial government is fully committed to providing the best service for all the Haj pilgrims, from the departure until they are back home. This commitment is a humanitarian responsibility we have to respect,” he said.
The Regional Hajj Organizing Committee (PPIHD) divided West Kalimantan pilgrims into five flight groups. Namely, BTH-14 to BTH-18.
The process will start with Lion Air flights to Batam. Then it will connect to international flights with Saudia to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
The flight group BTH-14 is a mix of pilgrims from Singkawang, Sambas, Sanggau, Landak, Bengkayang, and Pontianak.
Meanwhile, pilgrims from Pontianak City and Kubu Raya Regency dominate BTH-15, BTH-16, and BTH-17.
BTH-18 consists of pilgrims from Sintang, Melawi, Kapuas Hulu, Ketapang, Kayong Utara, Mempawah, and Sekadau.
The governor also reminded pilgrims to keep their physical and mental health in check. This is especially important as most pilgrims are performing the Haj under the Tamattu’ scheme.
He urged them to obey officers’ instructions and stay united. Moreover, he asked them to present Indonesia positively by demonstrating discipline and exemplary manners while in Saudi Arabia.
“I urge pilgrims to stay healthy, listen to the guidance of the officers, and remain united. Haj officers must also perform their duties with patience and sincerity, especially for older pilgrims,” Norsan added.
The ceremony concluded with a collective prayer for the safety of all pilgrims. The prayer also wished them successful completion of the Haj rituals and a return home as haji mabrur (those blessed with the grace of Allah).
