Read Our Editor Guidelines
Last modified: Monday, July 27, 2026
The Kabar News commits to accuracy, fairness, independence, and responsibility in our journalism. These editorial guidelines describe our process for selecting, verifying, producing, reviewing, publishing, updating and correcting our content.
We base our editorial standards on the public interest, accuracy, transparency and accountability. These principles serve as a foundation for our journalists, editors, contributors and those involved in producing editorial content for The Kabar News.
Our Editorial Mission
The Kabar News provides news, analysis and useful information that helps our readers to better understand events, issues, people and developments that may affect their lives.
Our goals are to:
- Report the facts clearly and accurately.
- Give context that adds meaning, not just repeat the claims.
- Treat relevant viewpoints fairly.
- Differentiate between facts and opinion or speculation.
- Correct material errors openly and without delay.
- Be independent of political and commercial influence.
- To make our journalism accessible to local and international audiences.
Accuracy and Verification
Accuracy is a fundamental principle of our journalism. We try to use reasonable efforts to check important facts, names, dates, quotations, statistics, locations and other material details before publication.
Verification may include, depending on the story, the following:
- Consulting primary documents and official records.
- Direct contact with the individuals or organizations concerned.
- Checking information against multiple reliable sources.
- Studying data, research, photographs, videos or other proof.
- Having the right experts on board when you need specialist knowledge.
- Verification of digital material (source, date, context, authenticity)
How much verification is required may depend on the urgency and complexity of a story and its potential impact. Speed does not compromise accuracy. We state clearly when facts are uncertain or still developing.
Source and Credit
We name sources when it is safe and responsible to do so. References from other publications, research organizations, public authorities or external experts are indicated accordingly.
We prefer original and primary sources whenever possible. Secondary sources may be used to provide context, to identify developments or to confirm information.
Anonymous sources are used only if they have information of legitimate public interest that cannot be reasonably obtained on the record. Editors should know the identity of the source, how the source got the information, and the source’s motivation and possible conflicts of interest before publication of anonymous information.
We do not quote out of context or misrepresent a source on purpose.
Fairness and Right of Reply
The Kabar News strives to present the relevant facts and perspectives fairly. Fairness does not mean necessarily giving each position equal space, particularly when the evidence available overwhelmingly favors one conclusion.
We will get a response before we publish an article that contains serious criticism or allegations about an identifiable person or organization. If we do not receive a response in a reasonable time, we may note in the article that we contacted the subject for comment.
We may add responses received after publication if they materially improve the article’s accuracy or fairness.
Editorial Independence
The Kabar News makes editorial decisions independently. We do not accept money from advertisers, sponsors, investors, political groups, government entities, business partners or other third parties to buy favorable editorial coverage or otherwise influence our reporting.
Commercial relationships do not dictate our journalism’s conclusions. We clearly label sponsored, paid, affiliate, and partner content so readers can distinguish it from independently produced editorial content.
You can find more information about our ownership and funding on our contact page.
Competing interests
Writers, editors, and contributors must disclose any financial, political, personal, or professional relationships that readers could reasonably perceive as conflicts of interest.
Any relevant conflicts of interest should be disclosed to an editor. If there is a serious conflict, we may remove the individual from the assignment or disclose the relationship to readers.
We cannot accept payments, gifts, travel, services or other benefits in exchange for favorable coverage.
News, Analysis and Opinion
We make a clear distinction between types of content:
- The news primarily provides verified facts and important context.
- Analysis – the application of knowledge of subject matter to interpret facts or evidence or trends.
- Opinion by the author or editorial board.
- Sponsored content is paid-for and clearly labelled as part of sponsored media
The views expressed in opinion articles are not necessarily those of all members of The Kabar News. Labels and author info should let readers know what the content is and where it’s coming from.
Headlines, Photos and Context
Headlines, summaries, captions, thumbnails and social media posts should be reflective of the content of the article. We don’t play games with headlines or images to create a false impression.
We present photographs, videos, illustrations, charts, and other visual materials with sufficient context and proper attribution. Changes to the material of documentary images should not mislead readers. We label illustrations, reconstructions, and AI-generated visuals when their nature is not immediately apparent.
Corrections and Updates
The Kabar News corrects material factual errors openly and as quickly as is reasonably possible.
Please include an explanation of what was wrong and the correct information in your corrections. We do not usually delete an entire article just because it contains a correctable error.
Articles may be updated when:
- New verified information is available.
- A relevant answer is provided by a person or organization.
- A developing event is significantly changed.
- Additional context needed to prevent misunderstanding.
Material updates should include an update note where appropriate. We may correct minor spelling, grammar, formatting, or style issues without publishing a correction notice, provided the changes do not alter the article’s meaning.
For more information or to report a possible error, please refer to our Corrections Policy or contact us at redaksi@thekabarnews.com.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
The Kabar News may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to help with limited tasks such as organizing research, transcription, translation, data processing or language assistance.
Output generated by AI is not a verified source. We subject all material intended for publication to appropriate human review, fact-checking, and editorial oversight.
We don’t knowingly publish misleading AI-generated facts, quotes, images or other material. When relevant to a reader’s understanding of the work, disclose significant use of synthetic or AI-generated content.
The content we publish is the responsibility of our human editors.
Privacy, Harm and Sensitive Reporting
We balance the public interest with individual privacy, safety and dignity. We take special care in reporting on:
- Vulnerable people and children.
- Those who have been victims of violence, abuse or exploitation.
- Medical and mental health considerations
- Loss, trauma and personal tragedy.
- Sexual offenses and other extremely sensitive allegations.
- Private information that could be used to unnecessarily harm someone.
The Kabar News does not publish superfluous identifying details where the potential harm outweighs the public value of publication.
Equal opportunity and diversity policy
We want people and communities fairly and accurately represented. Editorial content should not reinforce discrimination or stereotypes based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, or socioeconomic status.
We mention relevant identity characteristics only when they add meaningful context to the story.
We plan to seek a wide and appropriate range of sources, perspectives and subject matter experts.
Originality, Copyright and Plagiarism
The Kabar News does not tolerate plagiarism. Writers and editors must properly attribute to others’ reporting, ideas, data, quotations, photographs, videos and other creative material.
We respect copyright and do not use third-party material without permission, license or other legal basis to do so. It is not acceptable to republish or rewrite another publisher’s work slightly without proper attribution.
