JAKARTA, thekabarnews.com—South Jakarta Metro Police have named Indonesian television presenter and entrepreneur Ruben Onsu a suspect in an investigation into alleged fraud and embezzlement linked to a business investment agreement.
South Jakarta Police spokesperson Adj. Comr. Joko Adiwibowo confirmed the development on Thursday, August 20.
“South Jakarta Metro Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit is currently handling an alleged fraud and embezzlement case,” Joko said.
According to the police account, a person identified by the initial P filed the complaint on behalf of an alleged victim identified as DM. Police identified the reported party by the initials RSO, referring to Ruben Onsu.
“The reporting party is identified by the initial P, the alleged victim is DM, and the reported party is RSO (Ruben Samuel Onsu),” Joko said.
Police registered the case under Police Report Number 310/VIII/2025/SPKT/Polres Jakarta Selatan on August 22, 2025. Investigators subsequently escalated the case from a preliminary inquiry to a full investigation on April 25, 2026.
“Investigators have questioned more than six witnesses, including an expert witness. They subsequently issued a formal letter naming him a suspect,” Joko said.
Police plan to summon Ruben Onsu for questioning under his new legal status.
“We will schedule him to be questioned as a suspect. We may arrange the examination for next week,” Joko added.
Investigators allege that the case began when Ruben offered DM an opportunity to invest money in a business involving the sale of certain products.
The proposed arrangement allegedly included profit sharing and the eventual return of the invested capital.
“The reported party operated a business and offered the alleged victim an opportunity to invest,” Joko said.
Police allege that DM did not receive either the promised returns or the principal after the agreed deadline.
“When the agreed deadline arrived, the profit was unpaid and the capital was unreturned,” Joko added.
Authorities have not disclosed the amount of the alleged loss, the product involved, the terms of the agreement or the evidence used to determine Ruben’s status.
Police have also not announced whether investigators intend to detain him.
Ruben and his legal representatives had not publicly responded to these specific allegations when this report was prepared.
His suspect status does not constitute a conviction, and investigators must still prove the allegations through the criminal justice process.
Separately, Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK) advises the public to verify an investment provider’s legality, identify the relevant regulator and carefully examine contractual terms before committing funds.
Police have not indicated whether the arrangement in this case constituted a regulated investment product under OJK supervision.
