Catherine, Princess of Wales, conquered the highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales to complete Britain’s National Three Peaks Challenge in under 24 hours. The endurance challenge was in aid of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. It also highlighted the recovery process after cancer treatment when Catherine revealed her remission in January 2025. The announcement came after she underwent chemotherapy the previous year.
LONDON, Thekabarnews.com—Catherine, Princess of Wales, completed Britain’s tough National Three Peaks Challenge on June 28. She climbed the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in 24 hours.
Kensington Palace kept her preparations for the challenge secret. Catherine began on Ben Nevis in Scotland on June 27. She moved on to Scafell Pike in England and Yr Wyddfa, or Snowdon, in Wales the following day.
The official Court Circular of the Royal Family recorded each stage of the challenge. It confirmed Catherine had met with representatives from Mountain Rescue England and Wales before completing the last two climbs.
Catherine took on the challenge to raise funds for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. She also aimed to raise awareness of the physical and emotional journey patients go through during and after cancer treatment.
The princess was treated at the Royal Marsden and, in January 2025, became joint patron of the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust with Prince William. The Royal Marsden, established in 1851, was the world’s first hospital solely for the diagnosis, treatment, research, and education of cancer.
The National Three Peaks Challenge charity describes it as one of the most difficult outdoor endurance challenges in Britain. As they make their way between the mountains, participants walk some 26 miles and climb almost 3,000 meters in total.
Catherine’s journey took in Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain at 1,345 meters. She also climbed Scafell Pike, England’s highest peak at 978 meters. Additionally, she reached Yr Wyddfa at 1,085 meters, the highest mountain in Wales.
According to Her.ie, Catherine announced in March 2024 that medical tests following abdominal surgery had diagnosed her with cancer. Her doctors have advised her to undergo preventive chemotherapy, and she has scaled back her public duties while receiving treatment.
She later confirmed she finished chemotherapy in September 2024. Catherine said she remained focused on recovery. She revealed her remission during a visit to the Royal Marsden in January 2025.
Her Three Peaks challenge was a major public milestone in that recovery. Additionally, the event raised awareness of the need for holistic cancer care. This includes emotional, social, and practical support that patients may need beyond medication.
The princess completed the challenge without other members of the royal family climbing alongside her. However, mountain rescue teams and logistical personnel were there to provide safety support.
She, Prince William, their three children, and members of the Middleton family greeted her at the end of the route. At the end of the route, Catherine was greeted by Prince William, their three children, and members of the Middleton family.
Kensington Palace confirmed the feat. This made Catherine the first member of Britain’s royal family to be reported to have completed all three peaks within the 24-hour limit of the challenge.
