JAKARTA, thekabarnews.com—President Prabowo Subianto’s Gerindra Party is reviewing a new national survey. It places his public approval rating at 51.1%. This is a sharp decline from 81.2% in November 2025.
Gerindra Executive Chairman and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said party officials would compare the findings from Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) with other opinion polls. They would check the conditions reported on the ground.
“Yes, of course, it will serve as material for our evaluation. We will compare the survey findings, which provide public input, with the current situation on the ground,” Dasco told reporters at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, July 30.
Dasco said Gerindra was also examining findings from other polling organizations, including Indikator Politik Indonesia.
He added that the government could take corrective and responsive measures. This would be the case if the cross-review confirmed that the survey results reflected conditions experienced by the public.
SMRC conducted its latest survey from July 5 to 19, 2026. It involved 749 randomly selected Indonesian voters aged 17 and older. Researchers conducted 83.8% of the interviews by telephone. They did 16.2% face-to-face.
The survey had a margin of error of approximately 3.7 percentage points at a 95-percent confidence level. Its findings represent estimates of public opinion rather than a complete population count.
According to the SMRC findings, 4.8 percent of respondents were very satisfied with Prabowo’s performance, while 46.3 percent were fairly content. These responses produced a combined approval rating of 51.1 percent.
The result marked a decline of 30.1 percentage points from SMRC’s November 2025 survey. At that time, Prabowo’s approval stood at 81.2 percent.
The share of respondents who were dissatisfied or very dissatisfied increased from 16 percent to 46.9 percent over the same period.
“President Prabowo’s declining approval occurred alongside worsening public assessments of economic conditions, politics and law enforcement,” SMRC Executive Director Deni Irvani said.
SMRC found that only 15.7 percent of respondents viewed national economic conditions positively in July. Meanwhile, nearly half rated them negatively.
On law enforcement, 26.4 percent expressed a positive assessment. In contrast, 37.6 percent viewed conditions negatively, as reported by SMRC survey coverage.
A separate Indikator Politik Indonesia survey recorded Prabowo’s approval at 79.9 percent. This was based on face-to-face interviews with 1,220 respondents from January 15 to 21. It carried a margin of error of about 2.9 percentage points.
The two polls used different fieldwork periods, sample sizes and interview methods, so their results are not directly interchangeable.
SMRC’s comparison within its survey series indicates a substantial shift in public sentiment over nine months.
Gerindra has not announced when it will complete its review or what policy recommendations may follow.
Dasco’s remarks nevertheless signal that the ruling party views the poll as an input for evaluating the administration’s performance. In particular, this includes performance in the economy, politics and law enforcement.
