Attorney General ST Burhanuddin has nominated the Attorney General’s Office (AGO)’s Asset Recovery Agency (BPA) head, Dr. Kuntadi, to become Indonesia’s next Assistant Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus). State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto received the proposal. However, Dr. Kuntadi must still pass a final assessment team review before any presidential appointment becomes legally official.
Thekabarnews.com—Indonesian Attorney General ST Burhanuddin has nominated senior prosecutor Dr. Kuntadi, S.H., M.H., to lead the Attorney General’s Office division responsible for investigating and prosecuting corruption and other special crimes.
State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi confirmed on Wednesday, July 15, that Burhanuddin sent the proposal to President Prabowo Subianto one day earlier.
“Based on the letter, yes,” Prasetyo said when reporters at the parliamentary complex asked whether the attorney general had proposed Dr. Kuntadi.
The nomination does not make Dr. Kuntadi the new Assistant Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus).
Prasetyo said the government must first process the nomination through the Final Assessment Team (TPA). Only after that can Prabowo approve an appointment through a presidential decree, according to Merdeka.com.
Dr. Kuntadi currently heads the Attorney General’s Office (AGO)’s Asset Recovery Agency (BPA). He holds the rank of Jaksa Utama, the highest prosecutorial civil-service rank.
President Prabowo appointed him to lead the agency through Presidential Decree No. 179/TPA/2025, dated November 20, 2025. Dr. Kuntadi previously served as head of the East Java High Prosecutor’s Office.
The BPA traces, seizes, manages and returns assets connected to criminal cases. It also supports prosecutors handling general and special crimes, according to the agency’s official organizational profile.
Dr. Kuntadi previously gained experience within Jampidsus as director of investigations, including work on major corruption investigations.
The Jampidsus office oversees investigations, prosecutions, appeals and the execution of final court rulings in special-crime cases.
Its remit includes corruption, money laundering, tax, and customs and excise offenses. Additionally, it covers crimes that cause losses to the national economy, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
The position became vacant after Febrie Adriansyah submitted his resignation. Attorney General ST Burhanuddin formally accepted it on July 11. The Attorney General’s Office said Febrie stepped down while police conducted an ongoing legal process.
The institution called on the public to respect the proceedings and uphold the presumption of innocence. It also said Jampidsus operations and case management would continue under existing procedures, as quoted by the official prosecutorial statement.
Prasetyo confirmed that Burhanuddin submitted proposals for several other senior positions, including deputy attorney general. However, he did not publicly identify all the candidates.
A document circulated publicly reportedly named Prof. Dr. Asep N. Mulyana, S.H., for the permanent deputy attorney general position. However, the government has not officially confirmed that nomination.
The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) identifies Prof. Asep as the deputy attorney general for general crimes (Jampidum). He is also concurrently serving as acting deputy attorney general, according to the Attorney General’s Office training agency
Prabowo has not issued the appointment decree. Until the assessment process concludes and the president signs a decree, Kuntadi remains a nominee rather than the definitive Jampidsus.
