JAKARTA, Thekabarnews.com—President Prabowo Subianto has announced a reshuffle of the leadership of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). This move aims to strengthen the implementation of the government’s flagship Free Meals Program (MBG). Additionally, the agency intends to improve its overall organizational performance.
The decision was officially announced on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, by State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi at a press conference at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and Muhammad Qodari, head of the Government Communications Agency (Bakom), accompanied him.
Nanik S. Deyang was appointed head of the BGN by President Prabowo as part of the new leadership structure. Agustina Arumsari and Major General Trenggono will serve as deputy heads of the BGN.
Prasetyo said the president has made the decision after monitoring and evaluating the performance of the agency for approximately one and a half years.
“After almost 18 months of monitoring and evaluation, the president decided to change the leadership of the BGN,” Prasetyo said during the announcement.
The leadership change also ends the term of Dadan Hindayana as Head of BGN. It also ends the terms of Deputy Heads Lodewyk Pusung and Sony Sanjaya.
The government appreciated their contributions to the establishment of the institution. In addition, it appreciated the laying of the foundation for Indonesia’s MBG programs since the agency’s inception.
“The administration acknowledges the contribution of the former leadership to the development of the agency in its early years,” Prasetyo stressed.
“The government appreciates their commitment, sweat, and contribution in setting up and taking the BGN forward,” he said.
The leadership change comes as Indonesia continues to scale its nutrition and public health work. In particular, the MBG Program has become one of President Prabowo’s most visible policy priorities.
It aims to improve the nutritional intake of schoolchildren, women in pregnancy, and other vulnerable groups. Moreover, it supports long-term human capital development.
The government officials said the new leadership team should immediately focus on strengthening internal coordination. In addition, they should improve governance standards and speed up the implementation of priority programs.
Prasetyo said President Prabowo has ordered the new management to improve cooperation between ministries and government agencies. He also directed them to strengthen coordination with provincial, district, and city governments across Indonesia.
Such collaboration, he said, will be necessary to ensure that we deliver nutrition programs efficiently and transparently. Moreover, these programs must be provided according to standards of accountability.
“The president expects the new leadership to accelerate priority programs, improve organizational performance, strengthen governance, and deliver tangible benefits to society. In particular, he wants a focus on efforts to improve nutrition, public health, and the quality of Indonesia’s human resources,” Prasetyo said.
The leadership change is part of a broader push by the administration to build institutional capacity. This effort comes ahead of the nationwide rollout of key social programs.
The BGN implements nutrition policies and coordinates food assistance programs that serve millions of beneficiaries across Indonesia.
As Indonesia continues to push for better health outcomes and address nutritional challenges, the effectiveness of BGN will likely remain a crucial part of the government’s long-term development goals.
As the new leadership team takes hold, the public’s attention will focus on how fast the agency can translate policy objectives into measurable gains. In particular, these gains should appear in nutrition, health, and educational outcomes for Indonesians across the archipelago.
