KUBU RAYA, The Kabar News—Police have named two companies as suspects in separate forest and land fire (karhutla) cases in Kubu Raya regency, expanding enforcement beyond individuals accused of setting fires.
Kubu Raya Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Rensa Sastika Aktadivia Robinson announced the development during a press conference at the Kubu Raya Police headquarters on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Investigators have submitted the two case files to the Mempawah District Prosecutor’s Office for examination.
“The Criminal Investigation Unit uncovered several cases, including two forest and land fire cases involving corporations. We have named them suspects and submitted the files to the Mempawah District Prosecutor’s Office,” Rensa said.
Kubu Raya Police handled nine karhutla investigations between January and September 2026, including the corporate cases. The remaining seven cases involved individuals, Kubu Raya Criminal Investigation Unit chief First Insp. Ambril said.

However, police have not publicly identified the two companies. Authorities have also withheld the locations of the fires, the size and ownership status of the affected land, and the legal provisions applied to the suspects. These missing details limit public scrutiny of the cases and the alleged environmental damage.
Mempawah prosecutors confirmed that the two corporate cases had entered the first stage of the prosecution process. At this stage, investigators submit files to prosecutors, who assess whether the evidence and administrative requirements are complete.
Mempawah District Prosecutor’s Office official Widi Sulistyo said prosecutors had seven days to decide whether the files were complete or required further investigation.
“We are still examining the files to determine whether they are complete,” Widi said, as reported by Inside Pontianak.
The file submission does not mean the cases are ready for trial. Prosecutors can return the files with instructions if investigators need to provide additional evidence. Police will transfer the suspects and evidence only after prosecutors declare the files complete.

The two companies remain presumed innocent unless a court finds them guilty.
The Kubu Raya cases form part of a broader crackdown on companies suspected of involvement in Indonesia’s 2026 fire crisis. West Kalimantan Police recorded 33 corporate-related fire cases by late October. Three had reached the first-stage review, while prosecutors had returned five files for additional investigation.
Nationally, police had named 13 companies as suspects and recorded 100 corporate-related fire reports covering about 29,535 hectares as of Oct. 20. Authorities were still investigating most of those cases, according to National Police data.
The Kubu Raya investigations signal that enforcement is beginning to reach corporate actors rather than focusing solely on individuals.
The cases’ credibility will now depend on the strength of the evidence, transparent prosecutorial review and the authorities’ willingness to disclose which companies allegedly bear responsibility.
