JAKARTA, Thekabarneews.com—On June 15, President Prabowo Subianto hosted Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, in Jakarta. They discussed strategic efforts to enhance bilateral relations between Indonesia and Qatar.
The meeting called for growing cooperation in the areas of economic development, healthcare, education, and social welfare. Additionally, it reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment to furthering diplomatic relations.
During the courtesy visit, Al-Muraikhi extended cordial congratulations from the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to President Prabowo. Furthermore, the minister conveyed the Emir’s message to reiterate Qatar’s support for a number of Indonesia’s national development priorities.
Indonesian officials said the emir offered support for Indonesia’s healthcare initiatives and education programs. The government’s flagship Free Meals (MBG) program also received support to boost nutrition among schoolchildren, women in pregnancy, and other vulnerable populations.
The meeting also underlined Qatar’s willingness to invest US$4 billion in Indonesia. This investment aims to assist the country’s long-term economic development and to tighten bilateral economic cooperation.
The investment promise represents the expanding strategic alliance between the two countries. It also shows Qatar’s faith in Indonesia’s economic prospects, officials added.
The parties also addressed possibilities for broadening collaboration in several areas. These areas include infrastructure, investment, human resource development, and sustainable economic growth.
President Prabowo appreciated Qatar’s sustained engagement. He pointed out the necessity of deepening cooperation with critical partners in the Middle East to advance Indonesia’s national development goal.
Also on the agenda was the preparation for the visit of Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Indonesia in late 2026. This was another important subject discussed at the meeting.
The Emir of Qatar plans to make the visit at the end of 2026 to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Qatar. This will mark a major milestone in bilateral cooperation.
The visit is expected to deepen political communication and broaden economic alliances. It will also open up new chances for cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, education, energy, and social development.
Indonesia and Qatar have maintained close diplomatic relations for decades. Gradually, they have increased collaboration on several issues from work and investment to education and humanitarian support.
Economic ties between the two nations have also expanded over the past few years. Indonesia aims to lure more foreign investment to finance infrastructure development and economic change.
Qatar is considered an essential strategic partner for Indonesia in the Gulf region. This is particularly true due to its high investment capacity and growing significance in both regional and global economic affairs.
The recent meeting reaffirms the two governments’ joint commitment to the creation of a wider and more comprehensive collaboration. This collaboration is based on shared economic interests and long-term development goals.
To mark five decades of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Qatar, the two countries will also look into further efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation. This will happen ahead of the Emir’s scheduled visit later this year.
