JAKARTA, thekabarnews.com—The Indonesian government plans to rebrand its Food Supply and Price Stabilization rice, commonly known as SPHP rice, as Beras Kita Medium. It will also launch the redesigned packaging on October 20, 2026.
Coordinating Food Minister Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) announced the planned change after a coordination meeting at his Central Jakarta office on Monday, September 7.
The product will use blue-and-white packaging, and the words “Stabilisasi Pasokan dan Harga Pangan” will still be visible in smaller type.
“I immediately approved the color. It looks excellent, doesn’t it? This is the color of victory,” Zulhas said during the press conference.
The government scheduled the launch to coincide with the beginning of President Prabowo Subianto’s third year in office.
Beras Kita Medium will remain part of the SPHP program. This program uses rice from the government’s food reserves to stabilize market supplies and keep consumer prices affordable.
The state logistics agency Perum Bulog distributes the medium-grade rice through markets, retailers and government-backed affordable-food programs.
Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani said the new name would align the rice with other government food brands. These brands include MinyaKita and Gula ManisKita.
“Why must we use the name Beras Kita? Because government products use the word ‘Kita,’” Rizal said after the meeting.
He explained that ‘Kita’ represents ‘Keluarga Indonesia Sejahtera,’ or Prosperous Indonesian Families. Under that interpretation, Beras Kita Medium means medium-grade rice for prosperous Indonesian families.
Bulog said the redesigned packaging would make the government product easier to identify and more competitive alongside privately marketed rice.
Rizal also pledged to improve product quality and public service rather than limit the change to its appearance.
The announcement focused on branding and did not establish new retail price ceilings or distribution rules.
Under the 2026 SPHP framework, the National Food Agency allocated Rp4.97 trillion for price subsidies. This covers a target of 828,000 tonnes.
The agency allows Bulog to distribute SPHP rice in two-kilogram and five-kilogram packages.
It also permits 50-kilogram packaging for specified regions, including Papua and Maluku, under certain distribution arrangements.
Consumer price ceilings vary by region. The government set a maximum of Rp12,500 per kilogram in Java and several other regions. Meanwhile, it set the price at Rp13,100 across most of Sumatra and Kalimantan. The ceiling is Rp13,500 in Maluku and Papua, according to the National Food Agency.
By mid-July, the government had distributed approximately 678,870 tonnes of SPHP rice since the beginning of 2026. This total includes the continuation of the previous program during January and February.
The National Food Agency said the program helps release government stocks into consumer markets when additional supply is needed.
The October launch will therefore change the product’s public identity, not its underlying price-stabilization function. Its effectiveness will continue to depend on consistent quality, compliance with price ceilings and reliable distribution to consumers.
