JAKARTA, thekabarnews.com—The House of Representatives (DPR) will ask Bank Mandiri to explain a temporary transaction hold placed on an account containing Rp80.9 million in donations. These donations were for a planned protest involving residents of Pati, Central Java.
Deputy Speaker Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal announced the plan at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, August 24. He said lawmakers needed information from the state-owned bank before drawing conclusions about the restriction.
“We will seek confirmation from the bank about why it imposed the restriction,” Cucun said.
“There may have been indications concerning the transfer activity or questions about the source of the funds. We will ask Bank Mandiri. It is also one of the banks in the state-owned Himbara network,” he added.
The comments followed reports that authorities had restricted access to an account registered under Supriyono’s name. The account reportedly held public donations for an August 27 demonstration organized by the Aliansi Masyarakat Pati Bersatu (AMPB).
The Jakarta Metropolitan Police later said investigators had not permanently blocked the account. Instead, the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation had asked the bank to temporarily postpone transactions. Authorities are currently reviewing the fundraising activity.
“We want to clarify that the investigators’ letter referred to a request to postpone transactions, not to permanently block the account,” Greater Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Budi Hermanto said, according to the Polri’s official news portal.
Police said an individual held the account, which contained approximately Rp80.9 million.
Authorities were coordinating with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Social Affairs Ministry. They are reviewing whether the fundraising complied with applicable regulations.
Authorities had not determined that the donations violated the law when this report was prepared. Bank Mandiri had also not publicly released a detailed explanation of the transaction hold.
During a separate meeting on Monday, Cucun and other House leaders received representatives of the Forum Komunikasi Rakyat Pati. The forum is distinct from AMPB, the alliance connected to the planned demonstration and donation account.
Forum representatives raised concerns about legal certainty, public safety and Pati’s economic environment.
“They asked for legal certainty and clarity over who is responsible for maintaining security and public order there. The aim is so that Pati residents can live without fear and feel safe in their daily lives,” Cucun said, as reported by the DPR’s official.
“Pati residents want their economy to advance, the region to become welcoming to investors and people to be able to conduct business comfortably,” he added.
Cucun said the DPR planned to request explanations from relevant stakeholders, including Pati’s acting regent and local law-enforcement authorities.
“We will ask why Pati residents felt compelled to demand genuine security and economic progress,” he said.
The planned parliamentary follow-up and the authorities’ review of the donation account will determine whether officials take further administrative or legal action.
