JAKARTA, thekabarnews.com—The House of Representatives (DPR) unanimously approved Police Comr. Gen. Suyudi Ario Seto is the next National Police Chief (Kapolri) on Thursday, Oct. 1, clearing the way for his appointment by President Prabowo Subianto.
The House endorsed Suyudi during a plenary meeting at the Nusantara II Building in Jakarta’s parliamentary complex. He will replace Police Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who has led the National Police since January 2021.
“We ask for approval to appoint Police Comr. Gen. Suyudi Ario Seto as National Police Chief. Can it be approved?” House Speaker Puan Maharani asked.
“Agreed,” lawmakers responded before Puan struck the gavel.
The plenary also approved President Prabowo’s proposal to discharge Listyo honorably. Puan said the House would immediately send its decision to the president to prevent a leadership vacancy. The presidential inauguration was expected later Thursday.
Under Indonesia’s Police Law, the president appoints and dismisses the National Police chief with the House’s approval. Parliament’s vote therefore completed the legislative stage, but the presidential appointment and oath of office remained necessary before Suyudi formally assumed command.
Prabowo nominated Suyudi through presidential letter No. R57/Pres/09/2026, dated Sept. 30. The letter proposed Listyo’s dismissal and Suyudi’s appointment, according to information presented during the hearing.
The House’s Commission III conducted a public confirmation hearing shortly after 9 a.m. on Thursday. The process lasted about 30 minutes before representatives of all eight parliamentary factions accepted Suyudi as the sole nominee.
“Can we approve it by acclamation?” Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman asked. Every lawmaker present voiced approval.
Habiburokhman said the plenary approval followed Commission III’s confirmation hearing.
“This decision follows the fit-and-proper test conducted by the House’s Commission III. We hope he will carry out this responsibility faithfully and lead the National Police toward greater professionalism and integrity, while strengthening public trust,” he said.
During his presentation, Suyudi introduced “Police with the People” as his leadership theme. He said the approach would place the public at the center of police work and guide institutional reform.
“The theme I propose is ‘Police with the People,’” Suyudi said, describing it as a leadership doctrine and a direction for transforming the force.
He also pledged to strengthen professionalism and accountability while improving public services. His proposed first-100-day program includes reviewing public complaints, unresolved cases and the readiness of district police offices.
Suyudi, a 1994 Police Academy graduate, has served as head of the National Narcotics Agency since President Prabowo appointed him in August 2025. He received the rank of commissioner general the following month.
According to his official BNN profile, Suyudi built much of his career in criminal investigation. His previous positions included Banten Police Chief, deputy Jakarta Police Chief, and several investigative posts within the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim).
Listyo, whom Suyudi will replace, became National Police Chief on Jan. 27, 2021, after his appointment by then-president Joko Widodo. Suyudi’s transition to the role will become official once Prabowo issues the appointment decree and administers his oath.
