PONTIANAK, thekabarnews.com—Homegrown digital platform Kite Antar officially launched its online transport and delivery services in Pontianak on Thursday, July 30. It offers residents a new locally developed alternative for rides, food orders and parcel deliveries.
The Pontianak City administration marked the launch by sending off a convoy of Kite Antar driver-partners. The event took place in the courtyard of the mayor’s office.
The administration said its support reflected the city’s commitment to encouraging digital innovation developed by West Kalimantan residents.
“We support the arrival of Kite Antar as an application developed by local talent. We hope it can contribute to easier transport and delivery services for the people of Pontianak,” Pontianak Communications and Informatics Agency Head Syamsul Akbar said.
PT Kite Antar Teknologi developed the platform with a team drawn from several parts of West Kalimantan. The company aims to compete through affordable fares. In addition, it uses a revenue-sharing model designed to allow drivers to retain a larger portion of each transaction.
Operations manager at PT Kite Antar Teknologi, Yudhiansyah, said the company deducts a five-percent service commission from its partners. It does this without imposing additional charges.
“With a smaller deduction, drivers can earn more optimal income. At the same time, residents pay lower fares, providing benefits for both sides,” he said.
The fare and income claims represent the company’s assessment. Kite Antar has not released detailed fare comparisons with other platforms or average earnings data for its drivers.
The operator also limits the number of driver-partners it accepts in each service area. The company said the policy seeks to balance driver supply with customer demand and protect partners’ earning opportunities.
Kite Antar reported that it had approximately 200 registered drivers and dozens of participating merchants across its existing operational areas at the time of the Pontianak launch. However, the figures have not been independently audited.
According to its official website, Kite Antar provides services including KiteRide for passenger transport, KiteFood for meal delivery, and KiteMart for daily shopping. It also offers KiteSend for parcels and KiteJastip for assisted purchases.
The company says it operates in 15 Indonesian cities, including Pemangkat, Sambas and Singkawang.
Google Play listings identify PT Kite Antar Teknologi as the developer of the platform’s driver application and merchant application. The company says its consumer application is available through both Google Play and Apple’s App Store.
Pontianak offers a significant urban market for the new service. The city recorded 687,031 residents in 2024. Its population density is about 5,760 people per square kilometer, according to the city’s 2025–2029 development plan.
Kite Antar has not disclosed its target for active users, daily bookings or merchant growth in Pontianak.
Its performance will depend on service reliability, passenger safety, and transparent pricing. It depends on whether the five percent commission model can provide sustainable income for drivers.
