Thekabarnews.com—In the first 1.6 years of Prabowo Subianto’s presidency, there have been many major successes. These range from the expansion of the Free Meals program (MBG) to improved food security and increases in job indices.
The MBG program is the government’s flagship project to improve nutrition among schools, women in pregnancy, breastfeeding moms, and toddlers.
The program has, until April 2026, reached more than 61.93 million people through more than 26,000 nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPG) in the country, the Indonesian National Nutrition Agency (BGN) said. In addition, the agency said the project has created more than 1.18 million jobs across the country.
The government launched the MBG program nationwide in January 2025, one of Prabowo’s key campaign promises during his administration.
The government says the program is a long-term investment in human capital—and a way to reduce stunting, improve school performance, and boost Indonesia’s future workforce.
On the food security front, the administration claims it is on track to self-sufficiency in rice. National rice stocks are reported at 4.2 million tons, one of the highest levels in the country’s history.
The administration has always stressed the need to boost local food production to lessen dependence on imports. This is important to ensure the country’s resilience.
The economy has shown some positive signs. Government officials said the nation’s poverty rate fell to 8.47 percent and its unemployment rate to 4.76 percent. These are the lowest rates in the country’s modern history.
These gains strongly link to increased government engagement in food access, labor-intensive programs, and rural economic empowerment. Another major focus has been to increase action against illegal palm oil plantations and unlicensed mining.
The government announced the seizure of 5.8 million hectares of forest land and Rp370 trillion in fines. This is a sign of a more aggressive stance on environmental regulation and recovery of state assets.
The administration also urged Indonesia to be resilient to the global energy crisis. Officials said it is one of the most stable countries in the world in managing energy security, despite geopolitical volatility and supply disruptions.
These are big gains, but observers say challenges remain. Several places have criticized the MBG program over food safety incidents and logistical implementation.
Public policy experts say what happens in the coming years will depend on better monitoring, transparency, and sustainable budgeting and fiscal management.
As Indonesia becomes further entangled in Prabowo’s presidency, the sustainability of these policies and their real impact on the lives of ordinary people will likely erode the basis of the administration’s legacy.
