JAKARTA, Thekabarnews.com—The Jakarta governor, Pramono Anung, said that West Kalimantan has contributed greatly to the national economy of Indonesia. This is especially true in the form of its rich natural resources. These resources have played an important role in supporting development at the national level.
Governor Pramono made the statement during the inauguration ceremony of the management of the West Kalimantan Family Association (IKKB) in Jakarta. The event took place on Sunday, May 3.
In his speech, Pramono emphasized that West Kalimantan is a very strategic position for Indonesia today. This is true both in terms of economic resources and social-cultural diversity.
“Many natural resources in West Kalimantan are still very valuable for the national economy, with the majority of the value flowing to the central government and national development programs,” he said, as quoted in DetikNews.
In addition to the economy, Pramono also lauded the social harmony and multicultural identity of the province. He said it was a model for other regions in Indonesia.
He mentioned another example: the celebration of the Lunar New Year in Singkawang. This event is often cited as one of the largest Chinese New Year celebrations in the country.
The event is a reflection of the strong tradition of living together among different ethnic and religious communities in West Kalimantan.
“Diversity is a vital aspect of Indonesia’s national strength, and we must preserve and promote it,” Pramono added.
He also thanked the contributions of the West Kalimantan community outside the province, especially in Jakarta. They continue to contribute to the economic and social development of the capital city.
The Jakarta Provincial Administration wants to strengthen cooperation with the West Kalimantan Provincial Administration and IKKB in the future.
Officials discussed the possibility of building a dedicated facility to support the activities of West Kalimantan residents in Jakarta.
A place like this can serve as a hub for community gatherings, cultural events, and social support for migrants from West Kalimantan.
The move could speed up inter-regional cooperation and also bring tangible benefits to West Kalimantan residents in the capital.
It could also help in maintaining the cultural identity of the youth who are away from their province of origin. To achieve these goals, you can expose them to cultural activities. Additionally, you can connect them to their culture and create a community network of support.
“Local governments should not limit collaboration to formal agreements alone but must also ensure it benefits the people,” said Pramono Anung.
This collaboration is expected to build stronger relations between Jakarta and West Kalimantan. Additionally, it aims to promote economic development and cultural preservation.
The recognition also reflects a growing national appreciation among many West Kalimantan residents in Jakarta. They appreciate West Kalimantan’s role in shaping the economic and social landscape of Indonesia.
