Thekabarnews.com—PT Tokopedia has denied widespread reports that it is conducting mass layoffs. The company says its business remains on a positive growth trajectory. Moreover, the recent workforce changes are part of an internal organizational restructuring.
The clarification came from Stephanie Susilo, the president director of PT Tokopedia. She spoke during a meeting at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, July 6.
Stephanie firmly denied allegations circulating on social media and other platforms that TikTok or Tokopedia Group had carried out large-scale layoffs.
“There are no layoffs at TikTok and no layoffs at the Tokopedia Group,” she said.
Stephanie instead described that the company has implemented an organizational realignment and an internal mobility program. The goal is to optimize talent across the various business units within the group.
“The restructuring gives employees an opportunity to pursue a different career path based on their preferences and the company’s operational needs,” she said.
Some employees opted for voluntary compensation packages and pursued careers elsewhere. Meanwhile, others moved to different business units within the TikTok-Tokopedia Group through the internal mobility program.
Stephanie indicated these personnel changes are part of the company’s overall organizational plan. They are neither mass layoffs nor a workforce reduction plan.
The clarification follows increasing public scrutiny of employment conditions in Indonesia’s technology sector. Several digital companies have announced efficiency measures recently as they adjust to shifting market conditions.
Stephanie said that despite the rumor, Tokopedia is still experiencing positive business growth. The company is focused on strengthening its operations in Indonesia.
She remarked the company’s hiring activity is a reflection of its continued growth.
“We are actively hiring new talent and have opened more than 100 jobs across various functions in Indonesia. This is to support our growing business operations,” Stephanie said.
“The recruitment drive is part of the company’s commitment to invest in its workforce. Meanwhile, we are improving the services offered to users, merchants, and business partners,” she added.
By merging with TikTok’s e-commerce business, Tokopedia has become one of Indonesia’s largest e-commerce platforms. It continues to expand its ecosystem.
The combined operation will provide enhanced digital commerce services. It will support millions of sellers, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), across the country.
Technology companies are increasingly turning to organizational restructuring and internal mobility programs to improve efficiency and retain key talent.
Many companies have repositioned workers into new roles aligned with shifting business priorities instead of job cuts.
Tokopedia denied the rumors of layoffs and highlighted continued recruiting efforts. The company seeks to reassure employees, merchants and the public that it is still a financially healthy company with long-term growth plans.
The announcement also reflects the TikTok-Tokopedia Group’s ongoing commitment to developing talent. This is important as it grows its footprint in Indonesia’s competitive digital commerce landscape.
