Thekabarnews.com—President Prabowo Subianto has reiterated his government’s commitment to bolster Indonesia’s sports sector by implementing a series of strategic measures to nurture athletes. In addition, the government aims to empower young people, promote football, and build sustainable sports infrastructure.
Recently, President Prabowo held a high-level meeting with the youth and sports minister, Erick Thohir, and the Indonesian national team coach, John Herdman. The aim was to evaluate the government’s roadmap to improve national sports performance and prepare Indonesian athletes to compete in major international competitions.
Discussions covered several priorities. These included the improvement of youth development programs and increasing support for elite athletes. Furthermore, they covered the fast-tracking of sports infrastructure projects and the advancement of the country’s football aspirations on the world stage.
The youth and sports minister has launched a number of strategic programs to guarantee sustainable athlete development. The National Training Center of Indonesia (Pelatnas) is carrying out this work.
The government will speed up preparations for major international competitions in the coming period. These include the SEA Games, the Asian Games, and the Olympic Games.
Officials also discussed policies to improve the welfare of the athletes outside the competition. Among the proposals are an increase in performance-based bonuses and more career opportunities for current and former athletes. In addition, there will be a study on the feasibility of a national pension scheme for athletes who have represented Indonesia at the highest levels.
The government also reiterated its commitment to improving opportunities for para-athletes by strengthening programs supporting disability sports. Additionally, the government will increase investment in inclusive sports development.
Infrastructure development also figured high on the agenda of the meeting. The government will speed up the construction of a national sports development center. This center is expected to be a modern training place for Indonesian athletes in some branches.
“Football is one of the priority sectors for the international achievement of the administration, especially,” President Prabowo said.
He reiterated the government’s support for Indonesia’s efforts to improve domestic football. These efforts have two main objectives. The first is preparing to host FIFA ASEAN tournaments. The second is qualifying for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Officials said that key elements of the national football strategy will continue to be to improve coaching standards and increase the number of youth academies. Moreover, they will upgrade training facilities and reinforce player development pathways.
The meeting is part of the government’s wider vision to use sports as a tool for national development. It also aims for youth empowerment and international recognition.
The increased investment in athlete development and sports governance would make Indonesia more competitive in the world. Moreover, officials said it would also encourage more people to take part in sports.
The administration also stressed the importance of sustained partnership between government, national sports federations, coaches, athletes, and private sector partners. This is crucial for long-term success.
With a busy international sporting calendar, President Prabowo has stressed that the development of sport will continue to be a national priority.
We are committed to building a more competitive sports ecosystem, which will not only achieve international successes but also improve athlete welfare. In addition, we aim to enhance football development and inspire the next generation of Indonesian talents.
The government is hopeful that the new initiatives will help lay the foundation for better performances in the coming years. Preparations are already underway for regional and global competitions. These efforts will strengthen Indonesia’s ambition to become a leading sports nation in Southeast Asia.
