Thekabarnews.com—Indonesia has agreed to buy crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Russia. This comes after high-level talks between Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia and Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev.
Big energy companies like Rosneft, Ruschem, Zarubezhneft, and Lukoil also took part in the talks in Russia.
The Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry said in an official statement that the talks led to a preliminary agreement to improve Indonesia’s energy supply. In particular, the agreement focuses on crude oil reserves and LPG imports.
“We got excellent results. We had chances to add to our crude oil reserves and make sure we have enough LPG,” Bahlil said, Tuesday, April 14.
Both sides talked about working together to build oil refineries and storage facilities for crude oil in Indonesia. They also discussed supply agreements.
The goal of the program is to make the country’s energy production better. Additionally, it aims to make the country less dependent on energy supply chains from other countries.
Bahlil said that the framework for cooperation would include plans for how businesses and governments would work together. This two-part plan should help state institutions and private businesses in both countries work together more easily.
Indonesia has also said that it is willing to work with Russia more in several important areas. These include long-term contracts for crude oil and LPG and building infrastructure for storing energy. Moreover, this cooperation involves looking into the possibilities of nuclear energy and working together in the mineral sector.
“We want all of these things to happen so that the country’s energy supply is safe,” Bahlil said.
Indonesia’s bigger plan is to locate new sources of energy and boost its economy. This agreement comes as the world faces constantly changing energy prices.
This deal is part of that plan. People think it is important to understand how big energy companies work to keep prices stable and supplies safe.
Some people believe that Indonesia could become less dependent on other countries for energy in the long run if it builds refineries and storage facilities at the same time. This argument is especially true because demand is still going up in the country.
Geopolitical events continue to impact energy markets globally, making this news timely. Governments must strengthen strategic cooperation and ensure the stability and reliability of their supply chains.
The importance of making sure that this kind of cooperation is in line with Indonesia’s long-term energy transition goals. These goals include sustainability and diversification.
The agreement with Russia is an important milestone in Indonesia’s efforts to bolster its energy security. At the same time, Indonesia is expanding international partnerships in key sectors.
