JAKARTA, thekabarnews.com—75 percent of participants in a Center of Economic and Law Studies (CELIOS) survey reported government policies had caused them stress during the first two years of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s administration.
CELIOS and the civic initiative Kabinet Bayangan presented the findings during the virtual launch of their two-year government performance report on Sunday, Oct. 11. Additionally, the survey found that 67 percent of public respondents associated their stress with Prabowo’s conduct.
“We asked about feelings of stress toward government policy. 75 percent said they felt stressed by government policies, while 67 percent specifically felt stressed by Prabowo Subianto’s behavior,” CELIOS Executive Director Bhima Yudhistira said.

The findings measured respondents’ perceptions rather than providing a clinical assessment of their mental health. Therefore, they should not be interpreted as a medical diagnosis. They also should not be considered proof that the same percentages apply to Indonesia’s entire population.
Economic pressure emerged as a central source of anxiety. Seventy-eight percent of respondents identified rising prices for essential goods as an urgent problem that the government needed to address. Respondents also cited difficulty finding work and concerns about law enforcement.
The survey found that 53 percent believed their household finances had deteriorated compared with the previous year. These results suggest that respondents judged the economy primarily through their daily expenses and employment prospects. In other words, they did not judge it using headline growth figures.

Official indicators present a more mixed national picture. Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded annual inflation of 3.28 percent in September, while volatile food inflation rose by 1.46 percent from the previous month. Furthermore, BPS also reported that Indonesia’s economy grew by 5.29 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026.
Meanwhile, the national unemployment rate fell slightly to 4.68 percent in February. However, the figure still represented about 7.24 million unemployed people. The average employee wage stood at Rp3.29 million per month, according to BPS.
The official figures do not invalidate the survey’s findings. This is because national growth and lower unemployment do not necessarily reflect each household’s purchasing power.
CELIOS separately surveyed 129 experts. 71 percent of them rated Prabowo’s leadership capacity as inadequate. Meanwhile, 93 percent said they felt worried or distressed about his leadership style and public communication.
The researchers collected responses between Sept. 15 and Oct. 9. They recruited public participants through Meta advertisements using non-probability sampling and selected experts through snowball sampling. Reports on the launch placed the public sample at more than 1,100 respondents.

Because CELIOS did not use probability sampling, the survey cannot provide a conventional margin of error or claim statistical representation of every Indonesian voter. Instead, its findings describe the views of people who participated in the study.
The CELIOS report said it aimed to evaluate how the public perceived the administration’s leadership and policy results. The government had not issued a specific response to the latest findings as of Monday.
The survey nevertheless provides a clear policy signal: many respondents want the government to prioritize affordable necessities, employment opportunities and credible law enforcement. Addressing those concerns will require measurable results. These are results that households can feel in their daily lives.
