JAKARTA, thekabarnews.com—President Prabowo Subianto has instructed the Government Communication Agency (Bakom) to explain public policies in accessible language. The president also emphasized strengthening two-way engagement with citizens.
Prabowo delivered the instructions during a meeting with Bakom head Syahganda Nainggolan and deputy head Fadli Tri Hartono at his residence on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 4, according to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat’s media bureau.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the meeting focused on strengthening Bakom’s role in bringing government communication closer to the public. Prabowo paid particular attention to how officials explain government policies. In addition, he stressed the need to explain priority programs.
Under the approach outlined at the meeting, public communication should go beyond listing government activities. Officials should explain why a policy has been adopted. They should also clarify where it is heading and how its implementation could affect people’s daily lives.
The president also called on officials to avoid complicated bureaucratic language. Clear wording, the government said, would help people understand policy objectives and assess the benefits offered by government programs.
“Communication is expected not only to convey government programs but also the benefits experienced by the public,” Teddy said in the written statement, as reported by the Presidential Secretariat.
Prabowo also emphasized that government communication should operate in both directions. The government expects Bakom to disseminate verified information. At the same time, Bakom must provide a channel through which the administration can hear public criticism, concerns and policy proposals.
The meeting took place two days after Prabowo formally installed Syahganda and Fadli at the State Palace. President Prabowo appointed them under Presidential Decree No. 106/P/2026, according to a separate Presidential Secretariat release.
Syahganda replaced Muhammad Qodari, who received a new appointment to the Presidential Advisory Council. Bakom has undergone several leadership changes since the government established the agency in September 2025.
After his inauguration, Syahganda said Prabowo wanted government communication to help strengthen national cohesion.
“The President’s direction was about how communication could become an instrument of national unity,” Syahganda said.
He added that Bakom would explain not only government programs but also the thinking and policy direction behind Prabowo’s decisions.
The government has not yet announced specific performance targets or public feedback systems arising from Sunday’s meeting. However, the instructions establish Bakom’s immediate priorities: communicating policies in plain language and creating a more responsive relationship between the government and the public.
