Thekabarnews.com – Spider-Man: Brand New Day has opened in Indonesian cinemas with strong reviews. Its fluctuating Rotten Tomatoes score shows why early ratings should not be treated as final.
The latest film starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker initially reached 93% on Rotten Tomatoes when the first reviews arrived.
That early figure briefly placed it alongside Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Both of those movies hold 93% approval ratings.
The score later moved to approximately 90% as the review pool expanded to 126 critics. The film no longer shares the franchise’s highest live-action rating at the time of publication.
For comparison, Rotten Tomatoes lists Spider-Man 2 at 93% from 276 reviews. In contrast, No Way Home has a 93% rating from 429 reviews. Scores for newly released films can continue changing as the platform adds more reviews.
A 90% Tomatometer score means that nine out of every 10 approved critics gave the film a broadly positive review. It does not mean critics awarded the movie an average score of nine out of 10.
According to an early review roundup, Brand New Day recorded an average critic rating of 7.7 out of 10. It also recorded a Metacritic score of 70 out of 100.
Critics have generally praised the film’s combination of large-scale action and Peter Parker’s emotional development following the events of No Way Home.
Screen International critic Tim Grierson described Peter’s growth as “a rewarding transformation befitting a consistently smart, thrilling blockbuster.”
Other reviews have been more measured. The AP News awarded the film 2.5 out of four stars, praising Holland’s more mature performance. They argued that the 145-minute movie loses momentum during its third act.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened in Indonesia on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, ahead of its wider United States release on July 31.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the filmmaker behind Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios production stars Holland alongside Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal and Sadie Sink. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers wrote the screenplay.
The story follows an isolated Peter Parker after the world forgets his identity. He devotes himself to fighting crime full-time in New York while confronting the emotional and physical consequences of his previous choices. Marvel confirms that Cretton directed the film and that Holland returned in the lead role.
Despite the encouraging critical response, the film’s long-term standing remains uncertain. Audience ratings, international box-office results and the final Tomatometer score will provide a clearer measure after its full global rollout.
