U.S. President Donald Trump will attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup final between Spain and defending champion Argentina at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday. The White House confirmed his appearance. FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the two men plan to present the trophy to the winning captain.
Thekabarnews.com—U.S. President Donald Trump will attend the FIFA World Cup 2026 final between Spain and Argentina at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Sunday, July 19. The White House has confirmed his attendance.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced the president’s attendance during a briefing on Thursday, July 16. Trump is expected to attend a FIFA reception at Trump Tower in New York City before the championship match.
“We look forward to the final match on Sunday, and I know the president looks forward to attending. This is a fitting conclusion to a tournament that showcased America’s ability to host the world on the grandest stage,” Leavitt said.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said he and Trump plan to jointly present the World Cup trophy to the captain of the winning team on the field.
“Yes, hopefully we’ll present the trophy together in the final. That’s always been the plan, and that’s how it’s always been done in the past—the president of the country where the final is held presents the trophy together with the FIFA president,” Infantino said.
The arrangement follows a practice seen at previous tournaments. For example, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani joined Infantino during the trophy presentation to Argentina captain Lionel Messi after the 2022 final. Similarly, Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the ceremony when France won the 2018 tournament.
Trump also presented the trophy to Chelsea after the English club defeated Paris Saint-Germain in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final at the same New Jersey venue.
Spain and Argentina will meet on Sunday, July 19, at the venue FIFA officially calls the New York-New Jersey Stadium. The stadium is commercially known as MetLife Stadium. It also serves as the home of the NFL’s New York Giants and New York Jets.
Argentina enters the final as the defending world champion and is pursuing a second consecutive title. Spain, the 2010 champion, is seeking its second World Cup crown.
The match will conclude the largest World Cup in history. According to FIFA, the expanded competition featured 48 national teams and 104 matches. These matches took place across 16 host cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The tournament began on June 11 and will end with Sunday’s 104th match. Three countries are jointly hosting the men’s World Cup for the first time. It is also the first to include 48 teams, up from the 32-team format used in Qatar in 2022.
Leavitt said she did not know whether Trump would support Spain or Argentina. “I’m sure he’ll have a fun answer for you,” she told reporters.
