Authorities in Kubu Raya have begun cracking down on container trucks illegally parking on roads after repeated safety complaints. Regent Sujiwo also attended the inspections while transport officers were issuing warnings and e-tickets. Officials have not confirmed a circulating claim that two residents died after hitting a container truck in Kubu Raya.
KUBU RAYA, Thekabarnews.com—The Kubu Raya Regency administration in West Kalimantan has intensified its campaign against container trucks illegally parked on public roads. The Kubu Raya Regency administration made this decision because of limited space for traffic and the risk to motorists. Nighttime conditions heighten the danger.
In the meantime, Regent Sujiwo and Kubu Raya Police Chief AKBP Kadek Ary Mahardika conducted an inspection of the roadside container parking on the Trans-Kalimantan Highway in Durian Village, Sungai Ambawang district. This inspection took place on July 17.
Residents’ and road users’ complaints prompted the inspection. These complaints stated that heavy vehicles were obstructing traffic and causing safety hazards.
“Apparently, they failed to listen to our appeals through print and electronic media as well as my social media and the social media of the Kubu Raya administration. So we enforce today,” Sujiwo said when inspected Friday, July 17.
The Kubu Raya Transportation Office, municipal police, the Indonesian military (TNI), and traffic police conducted the operation. The Kubu Raya administration said its officers deflated the tires of five vehicles and gave tickets to two others. In addition, they stuck warning stickers on eight vehicles, including six containers.
“Some 15 vehicles have received warning stickers and electronic traffic tickets as of May 5,” said Darma Putra, head of Kubu Raya Land and Air Transportation Office.
Authorities identified the former zoo area, the Supadio arterial roundabout, Serdam I, and the Adisucipto Streets as frequently problematic locations.
“These are high-risk areas. We receive many reports about this issue because it can lead to accidents,” Darma told Inside Pontianak.
As per Indonesian law, on-road parking facilities can only be provided in designated areas on regency, village, or municipal roads bearing official traffic signs or road markings. In addition, Law No. 22 of 2009 stated that local governments had to consider the influence of such facilities on traffic and road safety.
The clampdown is part of wider worries about road safety. In 2025, the National Traffic Police in Indonesia recorded 158,508 accidents and 24,296 deaths. National Traffic Police said the number of deaths fell by 9.5 percent compared to 2024. However, the number of crashes increased by five percent.
There is no confirmation from the Kubu Raya Police or the Kubu Raya Regency administration‘s public reports that two residents died after crashing into a parked container on July 17, 2026. There are also no dates, locations, victim identities, or police incident records available.
