PONTIANAK, Thekabarnews.com—PLN West Kalimantan Main Distribution Unit (UID) stressed that the widespread blackouts in many parts of the province on Thursday, July 2, did not stem from a shortage of coal or other fundamental energy sources.
The statement was issued following a series of power outages that affected daily activities in Pontianak, Singkawang, Kubu Raya Regency, and several other areas. As a result, the public became concerned over the stability of electricity generation in the province.
Fuel supplies for power plants are still safe, PLN assured, a statement quoted by the Pontianak Post said. An operational disturbance at a power plant temporarily restricted electrical supplies to the West Kalimantan power grid.
PLN UID West Kalimantan Communication and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager Mukhlis Zarkasih said the company has a limited and carefully managed load management plan. This strategy ensures the stability and dependability of the regional power network.
“Some places experienced power outages as part of a limited and measured load management to ensure the reliability of the energy system in West Kalimantan,” he said.
The incident had no effect on the supply of coal or other key energy sources, he said. He made the statement in an apparent attempt to ease fears that the outages were due to fuel shortages.
“The problem is not one of the availability of primary energy or coal supplies, which are still good,” he added.
Power outages began at 3 p.m. local time and continued into the evening. These outages disrupted residential neighborhoods, commercial areas, government buildings, and business operations in several cities.
Some of the worst disruptions hit Singkawang. In this area, companies, public services, and households lost access to electricity for short periods.
Retailers, office workers, restaurants, and even house chores depend on a steady flow of electricity, and the blackout affected them.
The outage was an inconvenience, but PLN stressed the disruption was due to technical operational concerns and not due to fuel availability or constraints on energy-producing capacity.
PLN said its technical teams had started the restoration of the affected power system immediately. They also changed the network operations to restore energy service to normal as soon as possible.
The business stated that it would gradually restore the interconnection energy network in West Kalimantan. This approach ensures its stability and safety.
Controlled load management is a common tool used by power system managers to mitigate unexpected operational problems. It also helps prevent a larger system collapse and protects critical electricity infrastructure.
These methods are a common practice in power system operation. They are especially useful when the generation capacity is temporarily not enough to meet the demand due to technical problems.
“We urge the public not to panic because the coal stockpiles and other main energy sources are sufficient for electricity generation across the province,” PLN said.
The company continued to concentrate on restoring electric service as soon as possible while maintaining system reliability and operational safety.
PLN has asked users to monitor the progress of recovery and service conditions through official communication channels. They should do so while recovery operations are underway.
The incident emphasizes the necessity of operational resilience in regional energy systems. In such cases, short-lived technical failures can leave thousands of homes and businesses without power.
PLN is assuring the public that there is enough primary energy supply in the power plants in West Kalimantan. Moreover, the current recovery efforts focus on solving the operational issue that temporarily affected the electricity network in the province. The outage did not occur because of a lack of fuel.
