Thekabarnews.com—The Indonesian government has officially stopped being a part of the Board of Peace (BOP) because tensions are rising in the Middle East. Jakarta made this decision to prioritize the safety of Indonesians in the area. As a result, Indonesians can leave if necessary.
According to Yvonne Mewengkang of the Foreign Ministry, talks about Indonesia’s role in the international peace process are on hold for now.
Mewengkang stated during a press conference at the Foreign Ministry headquarters in Jakarta on Friday, March 13, that the government is closely monitoring the situation in the area. She announced the suspension of discussions regarding the BOP.
“This decision indicates that discussions regarding the Board of Peace mechanism will not take place at this time,” she added.
The ministry also says that the choice shows that Indonesia cares about keeping its people safe. The delay is because the security situation in the Middle East is still changing and not always clear.
Mewengkang also said that the government will look at the geopolitical situation again before deciding what Indonesia’s role should be in international security frameworks.
“We are still doing a full and thorough review of what is going on in the Middle East. We all know it changes a lot,” she added.
Even though the BOP talks are on hold, Indonesia has said again that it wants to work for world peace. Previously, the government said it will send Indonesian troops to Gaza, Palestine, to help the International Security Force (ISF) do its job.
Mewengkang said that Indonesia will only participate in international security efforts after careful consideration and in line with the country’s long-standing foreign policy.
Indonesia has always tried to stay out of other people’s business, use diplomacy, and find peaceful ways to solve problems.
Officials say that these rules are still crucial for how Jakarta is handling the current crisis. This principle is especially true when it comes to staying neutral and finding diplomatic ways to solve regional problems.
Mewengkang remarked at the same meeting that the government is working on several diplomatic plans. One of these ideas is for President Prabowo Subianto to visit some Asian countries.
She did say that the government has not said anything about the meetings yet. They are still getting ready for them.
“The work is still going on. We cannot provide any further information about the upcoming talks at this time,” Mewengkang stated.
As tensions rise in the Middle East, Indonesia has pledged to closely monitor the situation. Additionally, the government will maintain its diplomatic presence in the region and prioritize the safety of its citizens living abroad.
