Thekabarnews.com—Iran has firmly disputed claims that it begged the US and Israel to stop fighting. The country stated that there is no reason to talk to Washington right now.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi claimed these allegations during an interview with NBC News. The interview aired on Thursday, March 5.
“We did not ask for a ceasefire, and we do not see any reason to talk to the US,” Araghchi said. He said that Iran’s conversations with Washington in the past had not gone well.
“We had talked to them twice before, and both times they attacked us while we were chatting,” he stated.
The words demonstrate that Tehran is becoming more and more tough as tensions escalate in the Middle East after recent military clashes. These clashes involved Iran, the US, and Israel.
Araghchi also talked about the possibility of the US invading on the ground. He claims that Iran’s military is ready to respond if this happens.
“We’re waiting for them because we think we can face them, and it would be a huge tragedy for them,” he said.
The Iranian foreign minister indicated that the country’s military is ready for a range of possible outcomes in the continuing fight. This includes the prospect of a large-scale ground operation. Such an operation could involve significant troop deployments. It could also bring potential escalations in conflict with regional adversaries, such as increased military engagements or retaliatory actions that could destabilize the region further.
Iranian officials, on the other hand, alleged that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) used drones to strike the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Gulf of Oman. The carrier was about 340 kilometers outside of Iran’s territorial seas.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting said that the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters in Iran said that the drone strike forced the aircraft carrier and the destroyers that were accompanying it to depart the area. In addition, the paper adds that the US naval group later transferred to a different place. This place was more than 1,000 kilometers away.
The adjustments come after the US and Israel worked together to attack Tehran and other places in Iran on Saturday morning. This was on February 28.
Reports suggest that the attack killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, many members of his family, and high-ranking Iranian military leaders. Additionally, civilians were killed.
Iran then sent multiple waves of missiles and drones to hit US and Israeli locations in the vicinity. The ongoing exchange of attacks has raised the likelihood of a bigger regional conflict. Diplomatic ties between Tehran and Washington remain largely blocked, preventing meaningful dialogue and negotiations that could help de-escalate tensions.
The result limits opportunities for conflict resolution and increases tensions in the region. Both sides refuse negotiations, while the lack of diplomatic channels and mutual distrust deepen the crisis. Consequently, the absence of dialogue increases the risk of miscalculations that could lead to further escalation of hostilities.
