JAKARTA, thekabarnews.com—Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto highlighted his administration’s achievements in food security, public health, education, infrastructure and economic empowerment. He addressed these topics during his state address in Jakarta on Friday, August 14.
Prabowo delivered the address at the Nusantara Building during the Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR). The Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Regional Representative Council (DPD) was the occasion.
The nationally significant event formed part of Indonesia’s commemoration of its 81st Independence Day. It also gave the president an opportunity to account for nearly 22 months in office.
Prabowo said Indonesia had achieved self-sufficiency in eight food commodities.
Based on the National Food Agency’s 2026 balance projections cited by state news agency Antara, the commodities are rice, feed corn, consumer sugar, large chilies, bird’s eye chilies, shallots, chicken meat and eggs.
The country continues to record deficits in soybeans, garlic and beef or buffalo meat.
The president also reported that 10,000 Red-and-White village and urban-community cooperatives were operating.
In July, the Presidential Secretariat had reported more than 1,000 operating cooperatives and a government target of 30,000 by the end of 2026. Friday’s figure would represent rapid expansion if measured under the same definition, according to the Presidential Secretariat.
In healthcare, Prabowo said 108 million residents had participated in the Free Health Check program.
The State Secretariat previously reported that the initiative had reached well over 70 million people in 2025. It reached another 42.3 million participants across 38 provinces in 2026.
Differences between participant totals may reflect reporting periods or whether repeat examinations were counted.
According to figures presented in the address, the government has opened 182 community boarding schools called Sekolah Rakyat. It also returned 43,000 street-connected children to education.
It has also enrolled 250,000 people in the National Internship Program and renovated 30,000 schools.
Prabowo said government assistance had funded renovations to 84,000 homes. He also reported the construction of 2,228 kilometers of village roads, 3,500 bridges, 3,400 drilled-water facilities and 100 Red-and-White fishing villages.
On household and worker finances, he said the government had reduced interest charged under PNM Mekaar from 25 percent to 8 percent. The government lowered ride-hailing platform commissions from 20 percent to 8 percent.
The president further claimed that authorities had closed 1,000 illegal tin-mining operations and that PT Timah’s profit had increased ninefold.
The government presented these figures as achievements, but they require confirmation through detailed ministry reports and audited company disclosures.
Eight invited guests attended the session as examples of people who had directly benefited from government programs.
“This is no reason for complacency. It is an incentive for us to work even harder, because independence is not only what we proclaim. Independence is what the people feel,” Prabowo said.
“We do not work and build for one term, but for an era. We build for Indonesia’s next century,” the president added.
