JAKARTA, thekabarnews.com – Indonesia has advised prospective umrah pilgrims to confirm their flight schedules before traveling to airports as heightened tensions between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement create a risk of aviation disruption.
The Hajj and Umrah Ministry (Kemenhaj) said pilgrims should remain calm and coordinate with their licensed travel providers (PPIU). The advisory does not mean that Indonesian Umrah flights have been canceled.
As of September 16, the ministry said flights, accommodation and ground transportation for Indonesian pilgrims continued to operate normally.
“We ask pilgrims to remain calm. Those who have not departed should continue coordinating with their respective PPIUs and monitoring flight developments,” Director General for Hajj and Umrah Administration Puji Raharjo said in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 16.
Pilgrims should wait for confirmation from their operators before leaving for the airport, Puji said. They should also monitor notices from airlines and government agencies because security conditions and flight operations may change quickly.
Kemenhaj issued the advice after Saudi authorities activated emergency alerts in Mecca, Jeddah and Taif amid reports of drone and missile threats.
Saudi authorities later lifted the warnings after declaring that the immediate danger had passed. The warnings did not amount to a general closure of Saudi airspace or the suspension of all umrah services.
The Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that it had received no reports of Indonesian citizens affected by the security developments. Indonesian diplomatic missions continue to monitor conditions and coordinate with Saudi authorities.
Puji asked pilgrims already in Saudi Arabia to maintain contact with their PPIUs and the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah.
“Pilgrims who are already in Saudi Arabia can coordinate with their PPIUs and the consulate general,” he said.
“Do not take action independently. Keep communication channels open so that officials can handle every issue appropriately.”
Kemenhaj also warned against making travel decisions based on unverified social media posts. Pilgrims should obtain information from their operators, airlines, Indonesian diplomatic missions or official government channels.
The Kemenhaj’s advisory lists 0811-888-5888 as its complaint and information service.
Indonesians in Saudi Arabia who face an emergency may also contact the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh at +966 569173990 or the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah at +966 50 360 9667, according to the Foreign Ministry’s official Middle East security advisory.
The current guidance emphasizes preparedness rather than panic. Pilgrims should verify their departure time shortly before traveling and follow official instructions if Saudi authorities issue another security alert.
