Thekabarnews.com – Jason Statham returns to Indonesian cinemas in Mutiny, a 95-minute action thriller that begins screening at Cinema XXI locations on Friday, August 21, 2026.
French filmmaker Jean-François Richet, whose previous credits include Plane and The Emperor of Paris, directs the film from a screenplay by Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis.
Lionsgate presents the production in collaboration with MadRiver Pictures and Statham’s Punch Palace Productions.
The story follows Cole Reed, a former special-forces operative who enters the private security business. His life changes when he witnesses the murder of Tibu, his billionaire employer and close friend.
Authorities have not treated Reed as a witness but have arrested him for carrying out the killing.
Reed must keep a step ahead of those who would do him harm while trying to find evidence to prove his innocence and to expose the people behind Tibu’s death.
His investigation eventually takes him aboard a cargo ship controlled by armed criminals. Trapped at sea, Reed relies on his military training and combat experience as he uncovers a wider international conspiracy.
The film’s official synopsis describes Reed’s journey as a one-man mission to avenge his employer’s death. International distributor SND identifies him more specifically as a former special-forces member who now works as a security chief.
Statham leads the cast alongside Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller, Adrian Lester, Ramon Tikaram, Arnas Fedaravičius and Jason Wong.
Statham also produced the film with Marc Butan. The actor’s dual role gives him influence both in front of the camera and behind the production through Punch Palace Productions.
The official production companies have not publicly confirmed the reported US$40 million budget. Therefore, media outlets should treat that figure as an industry estimate rather than a verified production cost.
Indonesian cinema information lists August 21 as the film’s opening date at Cinema XXI. Screening times may differ by city and cinema, so viewers should check the latest local schedule before purchasing tickets.
Early critical responses have been mixed. As of August 21, Rotten Tomatoes recorded a 50 percent critics’ score based on 50 reviews, although the figure may change as additional reviews arrive. The platform lists the film as a 95-minute action and thriller production.
The available reviews generally praise Statham’s physical performance and the film’s direct pacing while criticizing its familiar revenge narrative and limited character development.
The original claim that Mutiny would become one of August’s most commercially successful action films remains speculative.
Its financial performance can only be evaluated after distributors release verified domestic and international box-office figures.
