Thekabarnews.com – South Korean broadcaster MBC premiered its latest action-comedy series, A Bona Fide Killer, on July 31. The drama introduces Gong Hyo-jin as a working mother who secretly operates as a legendary assassin.
Adapted from the popular Kakao Webtoon of the same name, the Korean drama combines crime, family conflict, comedy and workplace pressures.
MBC broadcasts new episodes every Friday and Saturday with the 14-episode series expected to run through September 2026.
International viewers can stream the drama through Rakuten Viki and KOCOWA+ in supported markets. However, availability and subtitle options may differ by region. MBC airs the series in South Korea at 9:50 p.m. KST.
Gong plays Yu Bo Na, a manager in Sales Team 3 at Durumi Electronics who appears to lead an ordinary life with her journalist husband and young daughter. Behind that identity, she is Kingfisher, an elite sniper who targets violent criminals who have escaped legal punishment.
Bo Na disappeared from the contract-killing world after giving birth. She returns to work following a three-year maternity leave. Now she must balance corporate duties, parenting and covert missions without exposing her identity.
MBC describes the drama as the story of a working mother fighting to preserve her work-life balance while holding one of the world’s most dangerous jobs. The role also marks Gong’s return to an MBC drama after approximately 15 years.
“What impressed me most was that an ordinary married woman’s daily life, rather than the cases, is the main focus,” Gong said, as quoted by MBC Entertainment.
Bo Na’s greatest threat may come from inside her own home. Her husband, investigative reporter Kwon Tae Sung, played by Jung Jun-won, follows clues surrounding Kingfisher. He does his work without initially realizing that he is pursuing his wife.
Detective Lee Dong Jin, portrayed by Lee Sang-yi, also investigates the mysterious sniper. Unlike those seeking private revenge, Dong Jin believes the justice system must punish criminals and becomes determined to arrest Kingfisher.
Sung Dong-il plays Kim Bong Pal, Bo Na’s team leader and an expert in disguising killings as accidental deaths. The wider cast includes Mu Jin-sung, Kim Nam-hee, Ha Yul-ri, Heo Jae-ho and Kim Ga-hee. All play members of the covert unit hidden inside Durumi Electronics.
Seo Jung-yeon portrays Bo Na’s retired mentor, while Choi Woo-sung plays police officer Beom Seong Hoon. Han Chae-rin appears as rookie reporter Gu Hae Na. In addition, Hwang Bom-i plays Bo Na and Tae Sung’s daughter, Kwon Yool.
Yoon Jong-ho, known for Lovely Runner, and Kim Ji-hoon direct the series from a screenplay by Kim Eun-hee. Bon Factory, Baram Pictures and Studio PIM produced the adaptation.
By placing an assassin’s missions alongside office politics and domestic responsibilities, A Bona Fide Killer uses its webtoon premise to explore justice, secrecy and the pressures facing a working parent.
