JAKARTA, thekabarnews.com—The Democratic Party has reportedly reassigned legislator Hillary Brigitta Lasut (HBL) to Commission III of Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR). This move returns her to a parliamentary body closely associated with her legal background and previous legislative work.
The reported move transfers Lasut from Commission XI, which oversees state finance, national development planning, monetary affairs and the financial-services sector.
HBL had served on Commission XI since the beginning of the 2024–2029 parliamentary term. The change is according to an official DPR publication.
Her return to Commission III could strengthen North Sulawesi residents’ representation on law-enforcement issues. It will also improve public security and access to justice.
HBL represents the North Sulawesi electoral district.
Under the DPR’s current 13-commission structure, Commission III primarily handles law enforcement. It also works with institutions such as the National Police, Attorney General’s Office, Corruption Eradication Commission and National Narcotics Agency.
The newly established Commission XIII now primarily oversees human rights and regulatory reform, which previously fell under Commission III. This is according to the DPR’s official commission structure.
HBL previously served on Commission III during the 2019–2024 parliamentary period. At that time she was a member of the NasDem Party.
Her education in law and involvement in public complaints related to legal and security issues made the commission a closely aligned assignment.
The Democratic Party politician has also emphasized that law enforcement must serve the public rather than political interests.
“The law must not be used as a political tool that only strengthens one or two parties or groups,” HBL said in a 2024 statement published by the DPR’s official news service.
“As representatives of the people, our duty is to voice the public’s concerns, fears and anxieties,” HBL added.
For North Sulawesi constituents, the reassignment could provide a more direct parliamentary channel for complaints involving policing. It could also help with criminal justice, narcotics enforcement and other cases requiring institutional oversight.
DPR’s Commission III regularly conducts hearings and regional visits to evaluate the performance of law-enforcement agencies.
HBL enters the assignment with a strong electoral mandate. The General Elections Commission recorded 310,780 votes for her in the 2024 legislative election—the highest total among elected DPR candidates from North Sulawesi. The province elects six members to the national legislature, according to the official KPU decision.
As of publication, the DPR had not publicly released a document confirming HBL’s latest reassignment. Formal confirmation through an updated DPR membership roster or Democratic Party faction announcement remains necessary. This would establish when the transfer took effect and whom Lasut replaced.
