JAKARTA, thekabarnews.com—Indonesia’s National Nutrition Agency (BGN) closed 833 Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPGs) on Monday, July 27, after finding food-safety, sanitation and operational violations. The SPPGs prepare meals for the Free Meals (MBG) program.
BGN chief Sudaryono announced the nationwide enforcement action during a press conference in Jakarta. The affected facilities comprised 98 SPPGs in Sumatra, 311 in Java and Madura, and 424 across Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara and Papua.
“There are 833 SPPGs that we suspended today,” Sudaryono said.
According to ANTARA News, the recorded violations included unhygienic food, suspected food-poisoning incidents, meals that failed to meet quality standards and wastewater treatment systems that did not satisfy technical requirements.
Those categories describe the violations found across the affected network; they do not mean that every kitchen committed every type of breach.
Sudaryono said the latest sanctions differed from earlier temporary suspensions because BGN would stop operational payments to the affected kitchens.
“We are handling these suspended SPPGs differently. In the past, we continued paying suspended SPPGs. Now, we have closed them and stopped their payments because they violated the rules,” he said.
BGN reportedly gave non-compliant SPPGs time to correct their hygiene, sanitation and wastewater-management problems before imposing the stricter sanction. Sudaryono said facilities that failed to demonstrate a commitment to improvement would face permanent suspension.
The BGN also terminated 261 non-civil-service personnel, comprising 224 employees and 37 experts.
BGN imposed serious disciplinary sanctions on nine civil servants (ASN) for major violations. Sudaryono said BGN would likely begin dismissal proceedings against them.
Another 39 civil servants received lighter disciplinary measures, including transfers, demotions, administrative sanctions or warnings.
BGN did not publicly identify the sanctioned employees or provide individual details of their alleged misconduct in the announcement. The sanctions should therefore not be interpreted as criminal convictions.
The July enforcement follows months of compliance reviews. Official BGN data showed that 8,182 of 27,208 operating SPPGs had experienced a suspension between January 6, 2025, and May 29, 2026.
Of those, 2,213 remained suspended on May 29. Those earlier figures included temporary sanctions and are not directly comparable with the July closures.
BGN said nearby compliant SPPGs would take over meal distribution for affected beneficiaries, helping schools continue receiving meals while BGN strengthens food safety, sanitation and program accountability.
