Universitas Tanjungpura (UNTAN) in Pontianak has introduced a Rp50,000 membership fee for commercial photographers using professional cameras or equipment on campus. The fee covers four hours, with a 10-percent hourly surcharge afterward. Student organizations and internal university activities remain exempt. They must first notify campus managers before conducting photography sessions there.
PONTIANAK, thekabarnews.com—Universitas Tanjungpura (UNTAN) has introduced a paid membership scheme for photographers conducting commercial photo sessions inside its campus in Pontianak, West Kalimantan.
Under Rector’s Decision No. 1599/DST/UN22/KU.04.02/2026, commercial photographers must pay Rp50,000 for up to four hours of access.
UNTAN will impose an additional charge of 10 percent for each hour beyond the initial period. This was announced according to an official university notice reviewed by TheKabarNews.com.
The policy covers commercial photography in university buildings, courtyards and other campus areas. This applies when photographers use professional cameras or supporting equipment.
It does not broadly prohibit visitors, students or staff from taking casual photographs. The wording of the notice specifically targets photographers. It targets those who use the campus as a location for paid or otherwise commercial assignments.
Professional photographers conducting graduation, portrait, promotional, product or other commercial sessions fall within the membership requirement. This applies when they use UNTAN facilities or outdoor areas.
Student-organization activities and internal university assignments do not require paid membership. Organizers must report their planned activities to campus managers. This is so the university can coordinate locations and prevent disruption to academic work.
The policy forms part of UNTAN’s broader system for managing commercial use of university property. Its official Satu Ruang platform allows members of the public and the academic community to check availability. They can also rent university rooms or buildings under separate rates.
UNTAN said the system aims to maintain campus cleanliness, protect gardens and green open spaces, and ensure that photography sessions do not disturb classes or other academic activities.
“Together, let us maintain campus facilities and comply with the applicable regulations,” the university’s notice states.
The university also expects registered photographers to take responsibility for equipment, props and waste generated during a photo session.
Photographers can obtain information from UNTAN’s Academic Support Unit for Career Development and Entrepreneurship (UPA PKK). The unit operates the Satu Ruang facility-management service and lists the official contact number 0851-6935-1426.
Registered photographers may also become university service partners. UPA PKK can contact participating photographers when students, campus units or other clients request professional photography services.
The partnership element aligns with UPA PKK’s broader role in career and entrepreneurship development. UNTAN’s official website identifies the unit as the organizer of career, employment and entrepreneurship programs. These programs serve students and the wider community.
The notice does not specify an expiry date or the exact start of enforcement or sanctions for photographers who fail to register. Photographers should confirm current requirements with UPA PKK before arranging commercial sessions.
