President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Sudaryono as head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) and appointed Donny Ermawan Taufanto and Yos Sunitiyoso to lead Universitas Republik Indonesia (URI) in Jakarta on Wednesday. The appointments aim to strengthen Indonesia’s nutrition governance and flagship free-meal program. They aim to strengthen leadership education and the long-term human-capital development agenda nationwide more effectively.
JAKARTA, thekabarnews.com—Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto officially inaugurated three senior officials to lead the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) and the newly established Universitas Republik Indonesia (URI) at the State Palace in Jakarta. The inauguration took place on Wednesday, July 22.
President Prabowo swore in Sudaryono as BGN head under Presidential Decree No. 78/P/2026, which formalized the agency’s leadership change. He replaced Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, who resigned to focus on her health, according to the State Secretariat.
At the same ceremony, retired Air Marshal Donny Ermawan Taufanto was appointed governor of URI. Professor Yos Sunitiyoso became its deputy governor. President Prabowo formalized their appointments through Presidential Decree No. 80/P/2026.
Sudaryono will oversee one of the government’s largest priority programs: the Free Meals (MBG) program. BGN reported that the program had reached approximately 59.86 million beneficiaries through 21,102 nutrition service units as of January 20, 2026.
The agency also reported a 2026 budget ceiling of Rp268 trillion, with 95.4 percent allocated to national nutrition programs. The government allocated Rp248 trillion to the MBG program. The scale of the funding places transparency, food safety and financial oversight at the center of Sudaryono’s mandate.
Following his inauguration, Sudaryono pledged to replace opaque and manual procedures with transparent, traceable systems.
“We must make every opaque process transparent. If we still handle something manually, we must find a way to digitize it and create a record,” he said.
He also promised firm action against corruption and other irregularities.
“Pray that all of us can be trustworthy and run this program as well as possible—zero tolerance for corrupt practices, hanky-panky and theft, which are among the things most hated by the Indonesian people,” Sudaryono said, as reported by Okezone.
The government designed URI as an umbrella institution to develop Indonesia’s future leaders. The government plans to connect Garuda Excellence Schools, higher education development and an expanded National Institute of Public Administration (LAN).
Donny said the government would strengthen LAN and expand its role beyond developing civil servants. The government will expand its responsibilities to include employees of state-owned enterprises. The broader ecosystem combines academic education, public leadership and professional development.
Donny previously served as deputy defense minister, while Yos was a director for downstream research and partnerships at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology.
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Red and White Cabinet ministers, Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander Gen. Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Attorney General ST Burhanuddin attended the ceremony.
