Thekabarnews.com—After over a decade of hard work, lineup changes, and creative obstacles, Bekasi’s alt-rock outfit Manipol has finally released their debut extended play (EP) “Maximize the Minimum.” The six-song effort marks a giant milestone for the trio. It is a monument to years of dedication to transforming limitations into artistic expression.
Martin (vocals and guitar), Denny (bass), and Agung (guitar and backing vocals) founded the band eight years ago. Formerly known as Mexican Seafood, the band has signed a deal with Heavy Rain Records. This indie label also houses fellow Indonesian artists The Rain and Private Number. In 2024, Manipol joined their roster.
The band decided on the title Manipol, meaning a fresh start, after talks with the label. The band name originates from the phrase “manifold” which is part of a motorcycle or an automobile, Martin explained.
“The name was an obvious choice. It was inspired by the word “manifold.” It does not mean anything special but I thought it sounded catchy. As far as I’m aware, a manifold is one of the essential pieces of an engine in a car,” he said.
The EP is preceded by three singles, “Alasan Kosong,” “Agitasi,” and “Hukum Alam.” They wrote three new songs called “Maximize the Minimum.” The band says the project represents their experiences with budgetary limits, limited studio time, and personal problems.
The title of the album, Martin says, is a reflection of the band’s idea of making the best of every limitation.
“This EP is about pushing the limit of every deficit. It’s a reflection of everything we’ve been through as a band: the restraints, the lack of resources, and the lack of time. With all those impediments in the way, we believed we could complete this project together. As a result, we achieved something important,” he said.
Bassist Denny echoed that sentiment, saying perseverance has always been part of the band’s identity.
“We’re going to keep going as long as we love making music,” he said.
“After releasing Hukum Alam in 2025, we more or less walked away from the idea,” Manipol remarked. The band went through a phase of creative exhaustion and a break. Then they realized they wanted to record an entire EP.
Agung said the band had already recorded six songs but didn’t have the money or the time to mix and master them.
“We really recorded six tracks, but funding and timing delayed everything. Then the three of us came together again. We picked the tracks that we thought reflected best the EP,” he concluded.
The EP collects the band’s former albums along with 3 new songs: “Cara Dia,” “Mati Aja Lo,” and “Terbuai Ekspektasi.” Each track poses a different social or personal question.
“Alasan Kosong” is about what happens when we run away from obligations. It also explores how our ego can prevent us from improving ourselves.
The band draws inspiration from the 1990s alternative rock and grunge movement, driving the song with loud guitar riffs and powerful percussion. “Agitasi” is a channel for the disappointments of the realities of life.
“Hukum Alam” is similar in style, with simple lyrics and familiar guitar tunes.
At the same time, “Cara Dia” reveals the abundance and abuse of authority. It describes the fight of the common people against social injustice.
One of the highlights of the EP is “Mati Aja Lo” featuring Ipul Bahri, the bassist of The Rain. The collaboration is full of great guitar arrangements and delivers an uplifting message to listeners. It tells them to find their own inner strength instead of relying on others to get through difficult times.
The penultimate song is “Terbuai Ekspektasi,” which explores the emotional effect of mistaken hopes. It encourages its listeners to stay grounded when chasing their dreams.
“Maximize the Minimum” Manipol aims to leave an impact on Indonesia’s indie rock industry. They want to inspire audiences through music that is based on dedication and authenticity.
The EP can be obtained on all major digital streaming platforms. Official content can also be viewed on the band’s YouTube account.
Manipol’s project extended beyond a collection of tunes. It was a monument to the power of persistence, innovation and collaboration in tough conditions.
