Thekabarnews.com—Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared that the United States and Iran reached a major peace accord to stop months of conflict in the Middle East. The official signing ceremony will be conducted on 19 June in Geneva, Switzerland.
“Both countries have agreed to go for a formal peace treaty after months of diplomatic negotiations held by international mediators,” Sharif remarked, according to CBS News.
“This is a significant step in our efforts to restore regional peace and relieve tensions that have upset global security and energy markets,” he said.
Mediators will have a series of preparatory talks between officials of Washington and Tehran before the real signing.
The meetings would focus on implementing the pact. Additionally, they would prepare the ground for technical-level negotiations to follow the signing ceremony, Sharif added.
The Pakistani prime minister, who was a key negotiator in the negotiations, said that under the terms of the pact all military action during the conflict, including in Lebanon, would end immediately and permanently. Therefore, all parties are required to comply with these terms.
The ceasefire could pave the way for broader diplomatic efforts to address long-standing regional issues.
President Trump also confirmed the Washington-Tehran deal. In announcing the peace deal, Trump said it will free up the Strait of Hormuz. This is one of the world’s most vital maritime oil lines.
He said the United States would lift its naval blockade as part of the post-agreement actions. Consequently, the agreement will help reestablish commercial commerce and regional peace.
The end of the Gulf crisis eases anxieties over global energy supplies and international trade. This follows months of escalating military tension in the Gulf region.
Organizers expect US Vice President JD Vance, senior officials from both countries, and representatives of the mediating nations to attend the formal signing ceremony in Geneva. Importantly, their attendance points out the importance of this event.
The summit marked a major diplomatic breakthrough after months of war that had raised geopolitical risks in the Middle East.
The sides have announced the deal’s outline. However, both sides will likely negotiate several key issues in follow-up talks after the signing ceremony. These include the future of Iran’s nuclear program, as well as sanctions relief and implementation procedures.
The coming weeks will be crucial for determining whether the accord delivers lasting peace and prevents further war in the region.
If done well, the accord could be a significant diplomatic success in recent Middle East history. It could pave the way for deeper regional collaboration and greater economic stability.
