DUBAI, Thekabarnews.com—Noon plans to reduce its workforce by half in the next three months, co-founder Mohamed Alabbar said. The company is speeding up the adoption of artificial intelligence across core operations.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the way his companies operate, from recruitment systems to management functions, Alabbar said at Business Summit 26 in Belgrade, Serbia.
“Noon will cut its headcount in our companies by half in three months,” Alabbar said at the event.
The billionaire entrepreneur, also a co-founder of Emaar, said AI is a major force that changes how businesses operate. It also changes how people make decisions.
“I am one of the AI agents working across my operations right now. I have 12 AI agents working for me, concurrent,” he said.
Alabbar stated the company has already automated much of its recruitment system. Noon uses artificial intelligence to conduct and analyze interviews, with no human interaction.
“We’ve never done an automated staff interview in 45 minutes before. We do not do interviews any more. That’s what the AI does,” he remarked.
The AI system, allegedly, analyzed candidates’ behavior, communication patterns, and even breathing during interviews.
“It does the analysis; it measures your breathing when you are being interviewed. AI is going to change everything,” he said.
The announcement highlights how rapidly artificial intelligence is reshaping labor markets around the world. This is especially true in the technology, e-commerce, and service sectors.
Companies are bringing AI tools into their work globally to boost efficiency, automate repetitive jobs, cut operational expenses, and speed up decision-making.
But as AI becomes more pervasive, giant questions arise about its impact on jobs and workforce stability.
In the next decade AI systems could replace huge numbers of people. This could fundamentally change labour markets, particularly in industries that rely heavily on administrative, customer service and data-processing activities.
And the speed of that tendency is rising even quicker with the rapid development of generative AI and automation technologies.
AI could create new types of jobs but could also cause millions of traditional jobs around the world to disappear.
AI is the main focus for governments, economists, and technology leaders as businesses rush to incorporate it into their daily operations.
Noon is one of the biggest e-commerce platforms in the Middle East. It operates in many countries and competes with big international online retailing firms.
As competition in e-commerce intensifies across the region, the company has made significant investments in logistics, delivery infrastructure, and digital services.
Alabbar’s statements also reflect a larger shift in the corporate mindset. Executives are beginning to see artificial intelligence not just as a supporting tool but as a replacement for some human roles.
Automation can raise productivity and cut costs. However, rapid trimming of the workforce could cause big social and economic upheaval if companies do not take care of innovation with job stability.
The arrival of AI is not a distant prospect for many workers. It is already beginning to change how we hire, how we manage, and even the future of work itself.
