MOJOKERTO, Thekabarnews.com—Police arrested Inge Marita (28) after her road rage incident in Mojokerto, East Java, went viral on social media. The incident involved verbal abuse and physical assault against the motorcyclist and a young child.
The suspect, a resident of the Pulorejo Green Modern housing complex in Mojokerto, admitted that she acted in the heat of the moment in the incident that happened on Tuesday, April 14, around 2:30 p.m. local time on Empunala Street.
In her statement, Inge drove a black Daihatsu Ayla from Gajah Mada Street and wanted to turn right at the Sekarsari intersection. She alleged that Lutvia Indriana, 33, had cut off her car at the time.
“When I turned right, the car was a little cockeyed. The motorcyclist swerved from left to right. Then, he entered between my car and the vehicle in front,” she told reporters at Mojokerto City Police headquarters, Sunday, April 19.
Inge said she slammed on her brakes to avoid a crash. But she said her emotions escalated rapidly and she verbally and physically attacked the victim and her child.
“I lost control and acted spontaneously due to my emotions. My child was in the car, and I was worried for her safety,” she said.
Despite her claims, no one reported injuries to Inge or her child. She confirmed her daughter was wearing a seatbelt and she was unharmed.
The situation worsened when Inge allegedly hit the victim’s nine-year-old son twice on the head, and the child cried out in fear, reports said. She also allegedly hit the victim’s helmet, stepped on her foot, and poked her right eye, causing injury.
The confrontation lasted some 30 minutes, with bystanders trying to break it up but unable to get the situation under control. Inge eventually left the scene; her car blocked access for other cars, but not before taking the key to the victim’s motorcycle.
Lutvia, a physical education teacher, was on her way home from work, collecting her child from school, when the incident happened.
Lutvia reported the incident to the Mojokerto City Police on Friday, April 17. Later, authorities arrested Inge Saturday, April 18, at a relative’s home in Pasuruan. The police also seized the suspect’s vehicle as evidence.
The police officials said the case was under investigation and requested the public not to take law into their hands in traffic-related disputes.
The incident has triggered public anxiety over road rage behavior and the safety of children in public spaces. Authorities stressed the need to control emotions and act responsibly on the road to prevent such incidents.
