Thekabarnews.com—The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission IX in Indonesia has said that they will call the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) to formally explain why they bought thousands of electric motorbikes. The purchases were for the nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPG).
The deputy chairman of DPR Commission IX, Charles Honoris, said that lawmakers will hold people fully accountable. They aim to ensure that state funds adhere to the principles of good governance.
“We will call BGN and ask for official duty. We will not let state money be spent without clear accountability,” Charles said, April 8.
As part of the Free Meals Program (MBG), the government bought tens of thousands of electric motorbikes to help SPPG heads do their jobs. Meanwhile, politicians are concerned about the funding for the nationwide plan to improve nutrition services.
Charles wanted to know if the purchase obeyed the rules for budgeting. He was especially curious because he’d heard the finance ministry might have rejected the proposal before.
“If the Finance Ministry rejected the purchase but BGN proceeded anyway, that could violate proper state budget procedures. The law says that no group should work outside of the budget system,” he said.
The Finance Minister, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, said the day before that the ministry had already turned down a plan like this. He said that the MBG program asked for money for computers and operational vehicles last year. However, the ministry rejected the request.
“I know there was a proposal last year for motorbikes and computers, but it was turned down,” Purbaya said, Tuesday, April 7, at the Finance Ministry.
The controversy has drawn increased attention to how the government handles procurement. Analysts insist that strict budgeting rules must guide the use of large public funds. This means authorities must obtain proper approvals for purchases and implement systems to monitor them.
DPR Commission IX’s planned hearing should clarify the legality of the purchase and any potential violations of rules or laws. In addition, lawmakers are likely to scrutinize the rationale behind the purchase and its alignment with the program’s goals.
This case emphasizes that the government must manage public funds with care, especially in large-scale programs like MBG. Therefore, they need to be honest and careful about what they do to keep the public’s trust and protect government programs.
The review’s results could change how the government buys things in the future. Furthermore, it could affect how well different parts of the government work together.
Increased public attention could make government spending more efficient and accountable by encouraging closer scrutiny and stronger oversight.
