Jakarta, Thekabarnews.com—The Indonesian government has officially ruled to limit the use of instant AI tools like ChatGPT or any other AI tools for students in primary, secondary, and high school education.
This rule is for kids in grades K–12 so they do not utilize AI-generated responses too often. If they depend on these things too much, it could be tougher for them to learn new things and think critically.
The Joint Ministerial Decree on AI Use in Education is now official because seven ministries have signed it. The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (Menko PMK) was responsible for putting everything together.
Officials explain that the goal of the regulation is to minimize the risks of things like “cognitive debt.” That is when individuals depend too much on technology and cannot think for themselves anymore.
The rule also discusses worries about “brain rot,” which is what happens to your brain when you use digital devices too often.
Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Pratikno remarked that the policy does not prohibit technology from progressing forward. Instead, it wants to make sure that AI is used correctly to help students learn. This guideline allows the use of technology.
“We want to manage how AI technologies are utilized so that they help students learn instead of replacing their thinking,” Pratikno said in a statement.
The government wants schools to integrate AI in controlled learning activities. These activities can include applications that assist youngsters in learning specific skills or robotics simulations.
The purpose of the policy is to provide youngsters enough time to play outside and protect their right to think for themselves. To put it another way, kids and teens need to spend more time outside.
Researchers warn that excessive phone and computer use is raising concerns about the mental health of teens and young adults.
Many kids spend more than 7.5 hours a day on their iPads, phones, and laptops. Acting this way can make people more worried, less focused, and trigger other mental health issues.
The new guideline is part of a wider conversation throughout the world about how to deploy AI in classrooms.
Schools need to make sure that kids acquire vital skills like how to be creative, think critically, and solve issues.
Correctly applying AI tools can facilitate learning. For example, they can assist people in learning with a more personal approach. They can also provide them a lot of information that can help them grasp and stay interested.
The government wants the rule to assist schools in teaching kids how to use new technologies safely. As technology becomes increasingly vital, it will help youngsters stay healthy and do well in school. It does this by keeping their good study habits and lives in balance.
