Thekabarnews.com—Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Thursday that Eid al-Fitr will be a national holiday in the Philippines on March 20, 2026.
The declaration shows that Eid al-Fitr is essential to Muslims all over the country. It also means that Ramadan, the month when Muslims pray, meditate, and refrain from eating, is over.
The Presidential Communications Office said that the government made the holiday official to show how important it is to both religion and culture.
“The declaration recognizes the importance of Eid’l Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, a time for prayer, meditation, and fasting,” the office said in a statement.
Many Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr for a few days after Ramadan ends. During the holy month, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk every day. They also pray, think about their beliefs, and do good things, such as giving to charity and helping those in need.
People and families often get together during the holidays to pray, eat holiday meals, and have fun.
Many Muslims in the Philippines, especially in Mindanao, highly value the observance.
President Marcos Jr. went to the Grand Iftar at Malacañang Palace on Thursday with people from the Muslim community and the whole country. The event showed that the government cared about the traditions and contributions of Filipino Muslims.
Marcos said again at the meeting that the government would keep its promise to protect and promote the country’s many religious and cultural traditions and make them more welcoming.
Malacañang wished Muslims in the Philippines and worldwide well as they prepare to celebrate Eid’l Fitr with loved ones.
Officials also said that the national holiday is meant to give Filipinos, especially Muslims, the chance to fully take part in the religious ceremonies that mark the end of Ramadan.
