After questioning Richard Lee at the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate on Friday night, March 6, 2026, officers took him to the Polda Metro Jaya detention center.
Police took Richard Lee out of the room where the investigators were working at about 9:43 p.m. local time. Then, when the police took him to the detention area inside the police headquarters, he was wearing a white shirt.
Earlier that day, around noon, Richard Lee went to the Jakarta police station for another round of questioning. Investigators questioned him for about ten hours. The incident was part of the ongoing investigation.
Several police officers who were very strict with Richard Lee took him to the detention center. People who saw him noticed that he kept his hands in front of his stomach and under his shirt. While the officers did not put a vest on him, some people thought the police had put handcuffs on his hands under his clothes.
Richard Lee did not answer reporters’ questions as officers led him to the detention gate. He did not say anything about his legal status or the results of the questioning. Also, he kept his head down.
Investigators did the examination as part of a criminal investigation into possible violations of Indonesia’s Consumer Protection Law and Health Law.
The legal case against Richard Lee got worse when judges at the South Jakarta District Court turned down his pretrial motion in February. The decision said that the police could call him a suspect.
Samira Farahnaz, publicly known as ‘Dokter Detektif’ or ‘Doktif,’ visited Polda Metro Jaya on December 2, 2024. This incident marked the beginning of the case. After investigating the case, police officially named Richard Lee a suspect on December 15, 2025.
Officials say he broke laws that protect people’s health and their rights as consumers. If a court finds him guilty later, he could go to jail for up to 12 years. In addition, he could pay billions of rupiah in fines.
