Yogyakarta, Thekabarnews.com—Yogyakarta Sultan and Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X has asked the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) and local nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPG) to put price information in the packages. The Free Meals Program (MBG) distributes these packages during Ramadan.
People requested this after they complained about the dry food menus given to students during Ramadan. Sri Sultan said that after people complained about the menu, he told the regional secretary to call in people from the MBG program. He said that the program needs to make the food better and the prices clearer.
“I told the regional secretary to call the MBG program managers because there have been protests. The menu does not seem to fit as well,” Sultan said.
He said that listing food prices would improve transparency and prevent misunderstandings. Sultan, for example, suggested clearly writing the price of each food item in the package.
“The price should be clear if bananas are part of the deal,” Sultan added.
The National Nutrition Agency’s Yogyakarta regional office is also starting to look at the dry food menus that were part of the MBG program. BGN Yogyakarta Regional Head Gagat Widyatmoko said the agency had received multiple complaints from the public about the Ramadan MBG packages.
Gagat said that feedback from the community was important for making the program better.
“We think that public comments about MBG dry menus are fair and helpful for evaluation,” he said, February 26.
He stressed that although the program provides dry meals during Ramadan, the food must remain safe to eat and fulfill nutritional standards.
Sometimes, officials use dry food packages when they need to change how they do things during Ramadan or when there are problems with getting the food to people.
Officials think that the evaluation process will help people trust the national nutrition initiative more and improve the services. In addition, the MBG program is still one of the most important things the government is doing. It ensures that kids in Indonesia, especially those who go to public schools, eat better.
Officials said that being honest and planning meals well will always be important for the program to reach its goals.
