Thekabarnews.com—Psychological studies regarding facial characteristics indicate that parents significantly influence their children’s physical appearance. Moreover, numerous studies suggest that a father’s facial features may affect the perceived attractiveness of his daughter. This points to the importance of genetic inheritance in facial development.
In 2008, Cornwell and Perrett conducted a study using family photos to examine the transmission of attractiveness from parents to children. The researchers found that daughters tend to get good looks from both parents, including their fathers. Furthermore, the results indicate that genetic factors from both parents interact to affect overall facial harmony and perceived attractiveness.
The study found that sons do not always inherit their father’s level of attractiveness in the same way. Instead, boys are more likely to get masculine facial features like jaw structure, facial proportions, and bone definition. They do not always inherit overall attractiveness.
Researchers say that this difference may be because of genetic and hormonal factors. These factors make some physical traits grow differently in males and females. Daughters may inherit facial features in a more balanced way. Meanwhile, sons may show more obvious masculine traits that do not always make them seem more attractive.
In 2016, Personality and Individual Differences published more research that looked at another factor: the father’s age when the child was born. The study found a possible link between older fathers and subtle differences in physical appearance.
Scientists believe that natural genetic changes in men as they age may contribute to these differences. Over time, the number of new genetic mutations in reproductive cells may rise. These mutations could change some inherited traits. Researchers stress, though, that the effect is usually small and does not shape a child’s looks on its own.
Experts say that genes are not the only thing that affects how someone looks. The way a person lives, eats, stays healthy, and interacts with their surroundings could also make them less attractive.
There is no one biological reason that can fully explain why some people are good-looking. People from different cultures have different ideas about what is appealing.
The study shows that genetics and development work together in complex ways to change how a person’s face looks. Additionally, they explain that although people inherit many physical traits from their parents, biological and social factors still influence their overall attractiveness.
