Thekabarnews.com—Islamic teachings strongly encourage having children and keeping the family line going. The Qur’an and the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ’s words say that having children, keeping the family together, and raising good children are all very important.
فَٱلْـَٔـٰنَ بَـٰشِرُوهُنَّ وَٱبْتَغُوا۟ مَا كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ ۚ
“So now, have relations with them and seek that which Allāh has decreed for you [i.e., offspring].” (Quran | Surah:187).
Islamic scholars say that the phrase “what Allah has ordained for you” means children or offspring. Ibn Kathir’s classical commentary says that a number of early scholars and companions, such as Abu Hurairah, Ibn Abbas, and Anas ibn Malik, said that the verse is about the hope of having children.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ’s words also show how important it is in Islam to have children. In a well-known story by Sunan Abu Dawud, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ told Muslims to marry people who are kind and can have children.
« تَزَوَّجُوا الْوَدُودَ الْوَلُودَ فَإِنِّى مُكَاثِرٌ بِكُمُ الأُمَمَ »
“Marry women who are loving and can have children. I will be proud of your large numbers in front of other nations.” (Hadith narrated by Abu Dawud: 2052).
This hadith shows that Islam wants families to grow and the Muslim community to stay alive.
A different important hadith says that children are important to a Muslim’s spiritual life, even after they die. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said,
“When someone dies, everything they did stops except for three things: good deeds that keep going, useful knowledge, and a good child who prays for them.” (Hadith narrated by Muslim).
This story shows how important it is to raise kids right. Even after they die, their prayers and good deeds can still help their parents.
The children are blessings that bring families together, in addition to their spiritual importance. Having kids can make a marriage stronger by making the couple happier, giving them more responsibility, and making their emotional connection stronger.
Saad Al-Shithri’s lectures on Ahkam Al-Maulud say that kids can help keep the peace in a home and teach family members the values of sakinah (peace), mawaddah (love), and rahmah (kindness).
Allah gave people children as a gift that they need to live. In Islam, sustenance means more than just money. It also means nice things that help people and make them feel good.
The Qur’an says that Allah will take care of every child.
وَلَا تَقْتُلُوٓا۟ أَوْلَـٰدَكُم مِّنْ إِمْلَـٰقٍۢ ۖ نَّحْنُ نَرْزُقُكُمْ وَإِيَّاهُمْ ۖ
“And do not kill your children out of poverty; We will provide for you and them.” (Quran | Surah: 151).
Many Muslims see this verse as a reminder that children are not a burden but a gift from God that comes with help and blessings from Allah.
