West Kalimantan, Thekabarnews.com—The Mempawah Class 1B Religious Court kept track of 327 women in Mempawah who officially became widows because of divorce in 2025. The court compiled the number by Monday, February 2, 2026. This illustrates the human cost associated with legal statistics.
The court dealt with hundreds of divorce cases. Some of these were associated with changes in employment status within families. After one spouse got an official appointment letter as a state employee with employment agreements (PPPK), a clear pattern began to form. The new status did not always bring peace to the home. On the contrary, sometimes it made things worse.
Head of the Mempawah Religious Court, Doni Burhan Efendi, said that about nine couples got divorced soon after one of them got a job as a PPPK employee. He said that better economic conditions and higher social status unexpectedly caused problems for some couples.
“Problems started to show up right after I got the job as PPPK.” Some chose to divorce their wives, and some even planned to remarry,” Doni said, as reported by Tribunnews.
Doni added that better welfare should make families stronger and more peaceful. However, in some court cases, improving financial circumstances resulted in separation instead.
Changes in the household, like an unequal income or changes in daily routines, often made partners feel emotionally distant from each other.
According to Doni, husbands filed the majority of divorce papers. This trend demonstrates how economic shifts can alter the power dynamics in marriages. In some cases, the change may potentially lead one partner to violate long-standing commitments.
For the wives left behind, the court decisions usher in a new chapter. They are now single parents or independent women. These women often have to deal with social and economic problems.
This event reminds us that both hardship and success test a marriage. Doni urged people to fulfill their marital duties regardless of their financial situation.
Every case file has a story of disappointment and broken trust behind it. New jobs and money can help. However, the court’s data shows that success can also widen emotional gaps if you don’t respect and talk to each other.
For many families in Mempawah, 2025 was a year when fortunes changed in ways that affected not just their jobs but also their lives.
