Singkawang, Thekabarnews.com – Tjhai Chui Mie, the mayor of Singkawang, said she was worried about how few people were paying their motor vehicle taxes.
By the end of December, only 28 percent of people had paid their taxes on two-wheeled vehicles. Meanwhile, almost 50 percent had paid their taxes on four-wheeled cars.
Tjhai Chui Mie remarked on Tuesday, December 30, “For motorcycle taxes, it is only 28 percent so far, whereas for cars it is approximately 50 percent.”
The Singkawang City Government proposes to give citizens who still owe taxes a break from paying them. Consequently, this policy should make people more likely to obey the rules when it comes to paying their taxes.
The Singkawang City Government is also working on several types of help to get more people to know about it. The government anticipates that Singkawang’s Regional Original Revenue (PAD) will keep going up as more people pay their taxes.
Bapenda’s explanation
Siti Kodam, the head of the Singkawang City Regional Earnings Agency (Bapenda), said earlier that the region’s earnings had achieved Rp125 billion. This is around 94 percent of the Rp133 billion goal by December 16.
“This year’s local revenue (PAD) is projected to stay high, even though the central government has measures like electricity subsidies or discounts that could hurt tax collection,” he said.
The Singkawang Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) is doing many things to reach this goal. These include holding the “Pekan Panutan” or “Gebyar Pajak” event, which lets people pay their Rural and Urban Land and Building Tax (PBB-P2).
However, some types of tax alternatives are still not being used to their full potential. By the middle of December, the Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) had brought in Rp15 billion. This amount is nearly 73% of the Rp20 billion goal. The Motor Vehicle Transfer Tax (BBNKB) only brought in Rp11 billion, or 68 percent of the Rp16 billion goal.
PBB-P2 has barely reached 78 percent of its Rp10 billion goal. About Rp4 billion of the total Rp7.8 billion received was for payments that were past due. Motorcycle vehicle taxes are likewise similar in this way.
“This shows that only around 38 percent of people are paying PBB-P2,” Siti Kodam said.
The evaluation findings for the West Kalimantan Province show that taxpayers in Singkawang still do not obey the rules very well.
“Only 28% of new two-wheeled vehicles pay taxes, whereas about 55% of new four-wheeled vehicles do. He said, “On average, compliance is only about 37 percent.”
