Thekabarnews.com—Turkey and Singapore have officially confirmed that Ramadan 1447 AH/2026 will start on Thursday, February 19. This is because astronomers ruled out the prospect of seeing the crescent moon earlier in the week.
Officials in both countries said that the new moon would not be visible on Tuesday, February 17. This means that Thursday is the first day of the holy month.
In Turkey, the Presidency of Religious Affairs uses known astronomical calculations that look at how visible the crescent is to decide when Hijri months start. Officials said that forecasts suggested that people in places that share nighttime with Turkey, like areas of the Middle East and the Americas, would not be able to see the new moon. The country then announced February 19 to be the beginning day of Ramadan.
The Mufti leads Singapore’s Islamic Religious Council (MUIS), which uses astronomical parameters to set the Islamic calendar. MUIS said that the crescent moon would set before sunset in the area, making it hard to see. Singapore also confirmed Thursday, February 19, as the first day of fasting based on these results.
The Sultanate of Oman made the same declaration on February 11. They joined Turkey and Singapore in saying that Ramadan 2026 would start on February 19.
Muslims around the world hold Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, in high spiritual regard. During this month, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk, pray every night, do more acts of worship, and give to charity.
With official pronouncements now confirmed, Muslim communities in these countries are getting ready to greet the holy month with prayers, reflection, and a fresh devotion to their faith.
