The Governor Reminds Business Owners not to Pay Their Employees less than the Minimum Wage (UMK)

Pontianak, Thekabarnews.com – On Sunday, December 28, 2025, West Kalimantan Governor Ria Norsan opened Cafe Indigo Brew & Bake in the center of Pontianak City. West Kalimantan residents view this new cafe as a catalyst for the growth of the creative economy and the food industry.

But even though the inauguration was warm and friendly, Governor Ria Norsan sent a strong message to the business executives. He stressed how important it is to respect workers’ rights, especially when it comes to the minimum wage imposed by the government.

Norsan told the visitors, “My message to the management is to genuinely pay attention to the employees’ earnings.” He said that the administration has set a minimum salary hike of 6 to 7 percent for the next year.

The governor said that while businesses flourish, they need to also improve the lives of their workers. He hopes that all business owners are paying their workers at least the minimum wage.

“If the economy grows, workers’ well-being must also grow,” Norsan said.

The governor also praised the Sambas-style Lapis Legit, the specialty dish of Cafe Indigo Brew & Bake. In addition to talking about labor issues, he highlighted that this traditional food is considered one of the region’s best-kept secrets. Its popularity is due to its authentic taste and high quality.

Ria Norsan said she was impressed by the process of creating lapis legit, which involves up to 40 eggs. This shows how concerned she is about keeping the quality high and preserving the region’s culinary tradition.

He expects that this particular menu would not only bring in local customers. It would also make West Kalimantan’s culinary tourism stand out more to tourists.
