Depok, Thekabarnews.com—Kombes Pol Abdul Waras, head of the Depok Metro Police, gave Sudrajat (49) a motorcycle and business capital after the ice gabus vendor went viral over accusations that he used sponge material in his products.
Kombes Pol Abdul Waras directly delivered the help to Sudrajat at his home in Bojonggede, Bogor Regency, Monday, January 26. The police did this to help Sudrajat get back on his feet and earn a living. This was after his business became the subject of public debate.
“We are here to help him out a little bit. I hope this can be helpful and boost his business,” Abdul Waras said.
He explained that Sudrajat is a registered resident in the Depok Metro Police’s jurisdiction. The Central Jakarta Police, on the other hand, are in charge of handling the case legally.
“Our job here is to protect him because he lives in the region that is under the Depok Metro Police. Central Jakarta Police would take care of other things relating to the case,” Abdul Waras added.
Netizens’ concern grew after social media users accused Sudrajat of using sponge material to produce ice goods, hurting his reputation as a vendor. Netizens quickly circulated the claim. As a result, they exerted pressure on the authorities to investigate it.
Sudrajat expressed his gratitude to the police for their assistance. He added that the motorcycle and business cash would help him get his tiny business back up and running. The Covid-19 pandemic closed his business operations.
“I truly appreciate the help that the police have given me. I want to sell ice again, but I am still concerned that this could happen,” said Sudrajat.
The police explicitly stated their intention to ensure Sudrajat’s continued livelihood. This support would continue while the legal process followed the rules.
The story attracted attention because viral accusations can quickly destroy small businesses’ reputations. This has led the government to try to find a balance between enforcing the law and being socially responsible.
